Geely has pulled the sheets off its electric pickup, designated as the RD6, ahead of the model’s formal September debut. This is the maiden offering under the Radar Auto marque, the Chinese automaker’s sub-brand dedicated to battery-powered models for outdoor and lifestyle use.

The RD6 is the first electric pickup under Geely's Radar Auto brand

Both Radar Auto and the RD6 were launched simultaneously, with the latter especially receiving support from Peter Horbury, senior vice president of design for Group Lotus which is also under Geely.

“The Radar product portfolio is focused on electric pickup trucks and SUVs, this direction challenges us to mix functionality and usability with aesthetic form,” he said. “Our aim is to let Radar users expand their horizons and explore nature in a sustainable way.”

Its profile borrows heavily from the Okavango's aesthetics

No full technical details have been disclosed, but the RD6 reportedly uses the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) that supports both single- and dual-electric motor powertrains. One notable feature of the RD6 is the presence of a front trunk or frunk similar to that used by the Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup, while the rear bed offers power outlets for external equipment.

The RD6’s fascia is sleek, with a streamlined grille bordered by LED headlamps similar to those used by the Geely Okavango. Even the profile on the electric pickup seems to be inspired by its cross MPV sibling, with squared-off fenders lending a muscular appearance.

Information on the four-door cab’s interior is likewise scarce at the moment, although a pair of screens hint at a digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen infotainment system.

What Geely wants to highlight is that the Radar RD6’s maximum range of 600 kilometers on a single charge. The model will be offered in both rear-wheel and four-wheel drivetrains, with power outputs ranging from 150 to 300 kilowatts. According to Geely, the RD6 can also support a range extender option.

The RD6 was developed in Radar Auto’s China research and development facilities in Hangzhou, while production will commence in Shandong. Deliveries are expected to arrive in Chinese dealerships by the fourth quarter of 2022, and there are plans to offer the model in Southeast Asian markets.
