Known as the first global crossover for B-segment of the Korean automaker, the Hyundai Kona 2018 is claimed to own a perfect combination of aesthetic look, hi-tech and ergonomic cabin and good quality of engine options. After its global premier last year in the US, the much-awaited crossover has finally hit our shores at MIAS 2018.

The Kona 2018 has finally arrived in the Philippines at MIAS 2018

At first glance, the Kona impresses us with its outstanding appearance, particularly low-wide stance which is further enhanced by the car’s eye-catching short overhangs. The Kona 2018 features 'dual-headlight' design with slim LED daytime running lamps and turn signals positioned on the top portion while the head lamps are located at the bottom section. There is also a presence of a fresh Cascading front grille which carries the fog lamps on the bottom of its center section.

Worth of note, the Hyundai Kona 2018 receives an aggressive look thanks to a new set of directional-style alloy wheels and black wheel lip moldings. At the rear, the crossover features a striking rear bumper and the same slim design for the LED taillights. In terms of dimension, the vehicle measures 4165mm of length, 1800mm of width and 1550mm of height, with a wheelbase  of 2600 mm and a ground clearance o 170 mm.

Stepping in side, it is not difficult to notice that the car shares the familiar center stack design also found in its C-segment brother Hyundai Tucson. Other welcome additions to its interior include the sleek black trim pieces made of premium plastic and a sense of comfort coming from the soft-touch materials.

Under the hood of the Hyundai Kona 2018 is either a 2.0L 4-cylinder powertrain which is able to generate 149 PS at 6200 rpm and 179 Nm of torque at 4500 rpm or a 1.6L T-GDI 4-cylinder that delivers 177 PS and 265 Nm of torque.

The Hyundai Kona 2023 is a subcompact crossover brought in by the Korean marque. It is available in the Philippines in one variant only which is priced at Php 1,188,000. Powering this vehicle is a 2.0-liter NU MPI Atkinson gasoline engine capable of generating 147 horsepower and 179 Nm of torque. Only a 6-speed automatic transmission is used to drive the power from the engine to the front wheels exclusively.

In terms of dimensions, the Kona has a length of 4,165 mm, a width of 1,800 mm, and a height of 1,550 mm. Additionally, it comes with a wheelbase and ground clearance rated at 2,600 mm and 170 mm, respectively. In the local market, this Korean subcompact crossover goes up against the likes of the Mazda CX-3, Kia Seltos, and Geely Coolray.
