Geely Philippines has finally entered the local subcompact sedan market. Its entry to the tightly contested segment is the Geely Emgrand, which like its competitors, is a five-seater, four-door, front-engine, front-wheel-drive model.

So what is the Geely Emgrand offering to prospective sedan buyers? To answer that, let’s take a closer look at Geely’s sedan.
Exterior
When it comes to size, the 2022 Geely Emgrand is 4,638mm long, 1,822mm wide, and 1,460mm in height. Its wheelbase then stretches to 2,650mm, and it offers a ground clearance of 122mm. That said, it is far larger than the Toyota Vios and the Nissan Almera. Its length even puts it on par with the Toyota Corolla Altis. It is even wider than the said model.

Style-wise, the Emgrand assumes a quiet but elegant exterior design. It does have some angularity to its lower front bumper, but the grille, the side, and the rear can be described as graceful.
For exterior features, the Emgrand’s Comfort and Premium trims come standard with automatic LED headlamps and LED daytime running lamps. The top-spec premium then gets the addition of power-folding side mirrors.

The Emgrand then rides on a set of 17-inch wheels, wrapped with 205/50R17 tires. Last but not the least, the top-spec Premium also features a sunroof. This makes the Emgrand one of the most affordable sedans in the local market with such a feature. The Emgrand's trunk can also open automatically when you stand beside the vehicle for about three seconds; provided that the key fob is inside your pocket.
The 2022 Geely Emgrand is available in the following colors: Red, Proud Teal, Dark Blue, Gold, Gray, and White. Geely PH added that it plans to sell 3,000 Emgrand units this year.
Interior
Inside, the Emgrand can comfortably seat up to five occupants. Everyone inside is then kept cool by an electric air-conditioning system with what Geely calls Intelligent Interactive System. The said AC system also comes with rear vents.

As for its seats, the top-spec Premium trim gets leatherette and suede. The white-and-blue interior color is also exclusive for the Premium variant as well as the six-way power-adjustable driver's seat. The Comfort trim meanwhile comes with fabric seats.
Furthermore, this Geely model’s rear seats come with a 60:40 split-fold function. Both trims also have cruise control.
Tech & Safety
To keep its occupants safe, the 2022 Geely Emgrand comes standard with speed-sensing door locks, tire pressure monitoring, traction control, stability control, and anti-lock braking with electronic brake-force distribution.

While the Comfort trim has front airbags, the Premium variant also gets front row side airbags and side curtain airbags.
Other safety features that are standard on Geely’s new sedan include hill-start assist, rear parking sensors, and a reverse camera.
For entertainment, the Emgrand is kitted out with an eight-inch touchscreen headunit. This system features a wireless smartphone mirroring system. The Premium trim then gets a six-piece speaker set, while the Comfort variant gets four speakers.

Engine & Performance
Under the hood of the Philippine-spec Geely Emgrand is a 1.5-liter inline-4 gasoline engine paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). At the most, this powertrain can deliver up to 102 horsepower and 142 Nm to the car’s front wheels.

Of note, the Emgrand uses Geely’s B-segment Modular Architecture (BMA). It shares this with the Geely Coolray. Like the said model, the new sedan also uses a MacPherson strut for the front and a torsion beam suspension for the rear.

Geely Emgrand Launch
The fourth-gen Geely Emgrand made its debut in May 2021. Geely Philippines then officially launched the said model online on February 25, 2022.
Geely Emgrand Exterior
Style-wise, the Geely Emgrand, assumes a sleek and dignified exterior. It isn’t leaning towards sportiness, but it won’t look out of place when parked beside executive sedan models.
