2022 Geely Emgrand sedan to debut soon in PH?

Sojitz G Auto Philippines Corp., the official distributor of Geely vehicles in the country, seems to be all set to expand its local model lineup with the launch of the 2022 Emgrand sedan.

Entering the sedan segment is already an expected move from Geely PH, which was first hinted at the local launch of the seven-seater Okavango. Geely Automobile International Deputy General Manager Jenny Jin mentioned that the car brand is looking to expand its model lineup in the Philippines, hinting that the new model will be a sedan.

Now, Geely PH released a teaser that’s accompanied by a caption that says “here’s a glimpse of something that will elevate your desire for something better.” While the caption sounds and reads vague, the teaser image says a lot as it provides a digital silhouette of what seems to be a sedan.

Geely PH has yet to confirm if the upcoming new model will indeed be the Emgrand. But from the looks of it, all hints point towards the possibility that the Chinese car brand will bring in the Emgrand sedan. 

The digital silhouette shows a grille with vertical slats, which is similar to Emgrand’s design. The character lines on the bumper also show similarity to the look of the said Geely sedan. Moreover, the taillight cluster hints that the car brand’s upcoming sedan could be the Emgrand. Aside from the teasers, Geely PH has also opened limited registration slots for its “next exciting ride.”

Although, Geely PH might market it with a different name similar to what it has done to the Coolray, which bears the moniker Binyue in China. We contacted Geely PH to get confirmation if it will be introducing the Emgrand in the market but, the car brand neither confirm nor deny it. 

The Geely Emgrand is a subcompact sedan that sits on the same B-segment Modular Architecture (BMA) found in the Coolray. The Emgrand is an interesting vehicle since it can go up against the subcompact as well as the compact sedans that are available in the local market.

The 2022 Geely Emgrand can go head-to-head with the compact sedans in the Philippines when you look at the dimensions. It measures 4,638mm long, 1,820mm wide, and 1,460mm tall along with a wheelbase of 2,650mm. Now, those numbers make it at par with the dimensions of the Honda Civic, and the Toyota Corolla Altis. To put things into perspective, the 2022 Geely Emgrand is longer, and wider than the two Japanese compact sedans.

On the other hand, it can go up against the subcompact sedans in the local market when you consider the possible price tag of the Geely Emgrand. In China, it comes with a starting price of 69,900 Yuan (around Php 559,000), and the top-spec variant has a price tag of 88,900 Yuan (around Php 711,000).

The 2022 Geely Emgrand is equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine that puts out 113 hp and 147 Nm of torque. The Chinese-spec version is available with either a five-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
