First look at the king-sized PH-spec Ford Expedition EL 2018

2017 seems to be a modest year for the Blue Oval with a handful of new car releases. But this year, it turns to another story. At the first 3 months of 2018, Ford has brought car lovers 2 new offers including the all-new Ford Expedition EL 2018. Actually, the new Expedition already made its debut in North America in January 2017 with a larger wheelbase, making it become the biggest SUV of the brand.

Walking around, the new Expedition EL is adorned with a couple of a large grille and big headlamps. Like the Explorer design, the car has slim intakes on the bumper and an upright front fascia. The side also gets an upright design highlighted by a specific character line upon the door handles. Moving to the rear, it features upright and big tail lamps covering around the SUV’s corners. Like the current model, the Expedition EL is featured a chrome character line displaying its name at the center of its rear. It comes equipped with a massive set of 20’’ alloy wheels.

The Ford’s largest SUV measures of 5,665 mm in length while the wheelbase gets a 3,342 mm length, a 2,030 mm width and a 1,936 mm height. Although the all-new Ford Expedition EL 2018 has impressive dimensions, the American brand claims that it will be 136 kg lighter than the current model thanks to the costly aluminum utilization applied in its structure and body.

Stepping inside, the SUV boasts a big infotainment screen with the newest SYNC tech, placed at the center of the cabin, along with a semi-digital display. The familiar gear selector is now replaced by a rotary dial while the A/C system is available for all seating rows with an adjustable control, especially for the second row’s passenger. An Olufsen and Bang sound system is also included in the package. Especially, a panoramic sunroof comes as a welcome design, brightening up the whole cabin. With a bigger body, the Expedition can comfortably accommodate 7 people and offers spacious cargo which is further enhanced by a foldable 3rd row.

Under the hood, the updated Ford Expedition EL 2018 is powered by a 3.5L turbocharged V6 engine which is capable of doling out 370 hp and 637 Nm of torque, meaning 10 hp and 68 Nm more than the current model. It works in a conjunction with a 10-speed automatic gearbox.

The Ford Expedition EL 2018 Limited models in the Philippine market will be offered with 4-wheel-drive. Price tag for this massive SUV will be disclosed at its official debut schedule to take place today at the Manila International Auto Show.
