Now a second-generation model, it sports bigger proportions than before.

Two-door cars have always been synonymous with spirited and dynamic driving. BMW Philippines, through SMC Asia Car Distributors Corp., reinforces this image as it announced the arrival of the all-new 4 Series coupe.

There's a new 4 Series in town

The 4 Series made its debut overseas last year, with six variants spanning gasoline, diesel, and hybrid powertrains. For the Philippine market, the range has been condensed into two offerings: the standard 420i Advantage and the 420i M Sport. According to BMW, the new 4 Series pays tribute to almost 90 years of churning out two-door driving machines.

Exterior

Increased proportions over the previous generation define the new 4 Series, coming at 4,768mm long, 1,852mm wide, and 1,383mm high. The wheelbase has been lengthened to 2,851mm, a 41mm increase. For the 420i M Sport, the factory-installed suspension gives it a stance that sits lower than the Advantage by 10mm.

BMW 4 Series variants

The new 4 Series comes in standard 420i Advantage and 420i M Sport variants

Full LED headlamps flank the prominent kidney grille, now larger than before as it fills the gap between the hood’s leading edge and the fascia’s lower lip. LED foglamps mark the bottom corners in front on the Advantage, accompanied by a more aggressive housing on the M Sport as part of the M Aerodynamics Package.

The profile is defined by long doors and short overhangs, with subtle curves and strong lines leading to the tapered rear where wraparound LED taillights hold court. Dual exhaust tips on either side of the rear diffuser communicate sportiness. The Advantage rides on 18-inch wheels while the M Sport showcases 19-inch alloys, both shod in run-flat tires.

Interior

The cabin offers accommodations for four, decked out in Sensatec Leather seat material on the Advantage paired with black high-gloss interior trim. For the M Sport, the upholstery of choice is leather vernasca, accompanied by the M leather steering wheel.

Whichever you choose, a sleek yet sporty interior awaits

Rear seats are configured to fold flat 40/20/40 with the push of a button, allowing for access to the generous 440-liter trunk in sections. A through-loading system enables customers to carry longer items as necessary.

Tech & Safety

The large digital instrument cluster from the 8 Series coupe makes its way to the 4 Series as well, part of the Live Cockpit Plus interface. Two simulated gauges surround a 5.1-inch color display, while the iDrive control is accompanied by a bigger 8.8-inch display and familiar Touch Controller.

The BMW Operating System 7.0 features customizable content displays, while Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an enhanced BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant are all standard.

Safety equipment include an extensive array of airbags, anti-lock brakes, Dynamic Stability Control, Dynamic Traction Control, speed-sensing door locks, and ISOFix mounts. The Parking Assistant feature comprises sensors for the front and rear, working with a reverse camera system.

Engine & drivetrain

Providing the grunt for the new 4 Series is a 2.0L BMW TwinPower turbocharged inline-4 gasoline engine, rated at 184 hp and 300 Nm of torque. An 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission (Steptronic Sport on the M Sport) supplies the power to the rear wheels, and can be engaged via gearshift paddles on the steering column.

Both variants in the 4 Series range also come with brake energy regeneration, charging the battery using heat that would have otherwise bled off from braking.

Pricing

The all-new BMW 4 Series in standard Advantage trim comes in at Php 3,990,000, while the more spirited M Sport carries a sticker price of Php 4,590,000. BMW Philippines warrants both models for 5 years or 200,000 km. If you’re keen on owning one, contact your nearest BMW dealership.
