Now in its third generation, the new model has plenty of new features that one wouldn't have expected on this well-known Toyota nameplate. The most noteworthy among these is the fact that it now has a hybrid engine. And like most next-gen models, it has plenty of new features, and a new look as well.

Let’s check out the all-new 2023 Toyota Innova in detail.

Exterior

As detailed in the numerous spy pics, the Toyota Innova for 2023 assumes a more modern design. The hexagonal grille is still front and center at the front fascia, but it is more horizontally oriented and smaller.

The grille is then flanked by a pair of sharp-looking LED headlamp clusters, while the lower bumper gets black a trim piece spanning the width of the vehicle. This in turn houses an LED light strip which functions as the vehicle’s daytime running lamps. On either side of the lowermost vent, meanwhile, are a pair of LED fog lamps. The hood of the all-new Innova is likewise flatter than ever before.

Toyota itself has classified this model as a multi-purpose crossover

On the side of the new Innova is a flatter roof, making for a more direct silhouette. The beltline on the side of the vehicle also appears straighter and more direct, and the wheel arches appear prominent. It is also from the side that one can see that it now gets shorter overhangs on the rear and front.

The rear end of the new Innova likewise continues the contemporary theme with plenty of angular details, coupled with a fancy new LED taillight design. A black-colored lower rear bumper is also present.

Also new on the 2023 Innova is a voice activated power tailgate, as well as a sunroof.

Completing the look of the model is a set of 18-inch alloy wheels. Some details like the badges also get a blue tinge to indicate its electrified powertrain.

The new Innova Zenix Hybrid stands 4,755mm long, 1,850mm wide, and 1,795mm in height. It also gets a 2,850mm long wheelbase, and a ground clearance of 185mm.

Interior

The all-new Toyota Innova can seat up to either seven or eight depending on the trim. The top-spec model gets captains chairs with an ottoman function, and occupants are kept cool by an automatic digital air-conditioning system.

The ottoman seats are electronically adjustable and equipped with an electronic leg rest. Likewise, the front seats are electronically adjustable as well.

Present on the new Innova are plenty of driver amenities. These include a fully digital gauge cluster, a push-to-start button, a center armrest, and a tilt and telescopic steering wheel.

Tech & Safety

Handling the entertainment needs of the next-gen Innova is a central 10-inch touchscreen, with two 10-inch second row touchscreens. The latter are mounted on the rear of the front seats. As for the main head unit, it comes with smartphone connectivity. Charging one’s phone in the new Innova is also made easy thanks to a wireless smartphone charging pad.

Toyota Indonesia also gave the all-new Innova’s top-spec variants a 360-degree view camera. This is paired with the Toyota Safety Sense driver-assist suite which includes adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and autonomous emergency braking, among others.

The Toyota Safety Sense is then supported by a number of standard safety equipment. These include, but are not limited to six airbags, stability control, hill-start assist, etc.

This updated MPV also features a good number of online features integrated with a smartphone app. It has a “stolen vehicle tracking” system, a monitor for maintenance intervals, and a way to easily contact customer support.

Engine & Performance

Unlike the outgoing model, the new Innova now uses a monocoque body. That said, it no longer uses the old ladder-frame Toyota IMV Platform that the current Toyota Hilux and Fortuner uses.

It now uses the Toyota New Global Architecture-C, or TNGA-C platform instead. It shares this with the Lexus UX, Corolla, and Corolla Cross. So yes, it also made the switch from rear-wheel-drive to front-wheel-drive.

Under the hood of the new Indonesia-spec Toyota Innova is either a 2.0-liter combustion-only four-banger, or a 2.0-liter hybrid. Both are paired to a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

It gets a leg up in terms of premiumness

For the gasoline-only 2.0-liter mill, it can produce up to 174 horsepower and 205 Nm of torque. Figures for the hybrid powertrain are yet to be revealed, but one can imagine that it can churn out more than the gasoline-only engine.

We also know that the 2.0-liter hybrid can run using an electric-only or EV mode. However, Toyota Indonesia has not given range figures yet for this mode as of the launch.
