Toyota has set November 21, 2022, as the date that the next iteration of its Innova MPV, featuring a hybrid powertrain among other changes, will make its world debut in Indonesia.
Toyota has just made the reported Innova launch date official
This was according to an official invitation extended by Toyota-Astra Motor to members of the automotive press, already received by our colleagues in Indonesia. The live event will be held at the Grand Ballroom of the Grand Hyatt Jakarta Hotel, and will also be simultaneously streamed over Toyota Indonesia’s YouTube channel at 3:00 p.m. Philippine time.
The anticipation surrounding the launch has been fueled by teaser images and numerous speculations surrounding the Innova’s upcoming third generation. One of these is that the new people mover will leave the International Innovative Multi-purpose Vehicle (IMV) platform in favor of the lighter Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) unibody chassis.
The automaker already confirmed the presence of a hybrid powertrain
Lending credence to this rumor is the confirmation that the next-generation Innova will run on hybrid power. While no specifics so far have been given, this is widely believed to comprise a 1.8- or 2.0-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor, with a total system output of 175 horsepower driving the front wheels.
The Kijang Innova EV Concept that Toyota revealed at the 2022 Indonesia International Auto Show this year served as the preview for the upcoming Innova’s hybrid powertrain. According to the automaker, the fully electric Innova (based on the second-generation model) merely served as a platform for further engineering research and development of future electric vehicles for the ASEAN region.

Inside, the change in platform is expected to deliver better interior space for both passengers and cargo, as well as a more upscale interior with a sunroof and floating-type central touchscreen. Another anticipated change that the upcoming Innova could bring is the inclusion of the Toyota Safety Sense suite of driver-assist features, which includes a 360-degree camera array.
