The Volkswagen ID.Buzz will be offered in two configurations, namely the ID.Buzz 5-seater and ID.Buzz Cargo. This all-electric microbus is currently undergoing road tests in the United Kingdom (UK) to get ready for its big reveal day slated on March 9, 2022.

“Before we start full production of the ID.Buzz, these final trials with vehicles practically matching the ultimate full-production specification provide us with indispensable input for the final fine-tuning,” said Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Head of Vehicle Development Kai Grünitz.

Dimensions-wise, the ID.Buzz measures 4,712 mm long, 1,985 mm wide, and 1,937 mm high, with a wheelbase rated at 2,988 mm. It is slightly smaller than the Volkswagen Multivan Kombi that recently arrived on our shores. With this, the new model should be more convenient to drive especially when parking in tight spaces in the city.

The unit is heavily covered in a bright-themed camouflage, exuding the spirited character of the legendary Volkswagen T1. As such, we can’t get into the design details of the all-electric microbus just yet. kolesa.ru recently sketched out a render so fans can get a glimpse of what the final production might look like.

Since the ID.Buzz is an all-electric model, Volkswagen makes full use of its electrified nature. The software updates of the infotainment system and other driving assist functions can be downloaded over the air. Additionally, advanced features such as Trained Parking, Car2X, and Travel Assist will be available.

In terms of powertrain, the new microbus uses a 77 kWh lithium-ion battery that supplies power to a 150 kW electric motor. The motor is integrated into the rear axle, accomplishing a rear-wheel-drive system just like the Volkswagen T1. Overall, the vehicle can make 201 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque.

The VW T1 lives on

Both the Volkswagen ID.Buzz and ID.Buzz Cargo will go on production in the first half of 2022. Meanwhile, the all-electric microbus’ market launch in Europe will happen sometime in this year’s autumn. By then, the company’s dream of making the nameplate emission-free will be fulfilled.
