The new top-spec variant's arrival is only a few days away.

On its official Facebook page, Toyota Motor Philippines has announced that the Fortuner GR Sport is going to be launched locally on October 23, 2021 at 6 p.m.

According to a previous report, the said Fortuner variant will be sitting as the new top-spec model once released in the market. This is because the Fortuner GR Sport has an expected price tag of Php 2.509 million. If the midsize SUV is indeed launched with that pricing, that would make it the most expensive model in its class in the Philippine market.

Regardless, the Fortuner GR Sport isn’t likely to feature any mechanical upgrades once we consider the specs of the Thai-spec version, as well as the one sold in the Indonesian market. It still uses the same 2.8-liter turbodiesel mill making up to 201 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque, which is currently in use on the Philippine-spec Fortuner Q and LTD variants.

Moreover, we are also fairly certain that it will use the same six-speed automatic gearbox that the Fortuner LTD uses, as well as the 4x4 drivetrain. According to some sources though, it will be receiving an improved suspension system just like the upcoming Toyota Hilux GR Sport

As for its looks, the upcoming Fortuner GR Sport will of course come dressed up with a sportier exterior with a lot of GR Sport badging inside and out, as well as black-colored exterior pieces. A two-tone color scheme and a mesh grille are also possible if the one we’re getting comes from Thailand. If sourced from Indonesia, it gets the standard grille, as well as a prominent skid plate.

Of note, the Fortuner GR Sport for the Indonesian market uses a set of 18-inch alloy wheels. That’s the same wheel size as the Philippine-spec Fortuner LTD. Then again, we speculated before that the new GR Sport variant might get a larger 20-inch set that’s standard in Thailand.
