The renderings on Car.co.za give us a brief look of the 2018 Ford Focus – a new C-segment hatchback of Ford for sale which will make its presence early next year.

The new model is allegedly wider, longer and even lighter as the sedan version. To be specific, the new Focus will ride on the evolutionary Global C platform, also dubbed C2. All variants will feature a wheelbase of 2,700 mm as seen in most of Focus’ contenders. Moreover, the latest is also 50 kg lighter than the outgoing model. Ford says that the company will use modern materials like high and ultra-high strength steels and aluminum to make those criteria possible.

As for exterior treatment, the new Focus gets sleeker and more sophisticated lines like the recently-released Fiesta sibling. But more than that, the build quality will be decidedly improved, counting narrower body panel gaps, a more harmonious side-glass silhouette/roof line in addition to a more elegantly shaped sheet metal.

On the subject of powertrain, the 2018 Ford Focus is likely to use three-cylinder 1.0- and 1.5-liter EcoBoost engines, mated to either a traditional automatic or manual transmission. It isn’t currently clear whether the car will come with a 6-speed unit used by the Fiesta or it will be upgraded with a 9-speed automatic transmission. We will have to wait and see.
