Finally, Porsche will choose a 3.8-liter flat-six engine for its new 718 GT4.
According to car news from Car & Drive, the German super car manufacturer intends to use a naturally-aspirated six-cylinder engine for its new 718 GT4, instead of a turbocharged four-cylinder engine as predicted.

Porsche intends to use a naturally-aspirated six-cylinder engine for the new 718 GT4.

“Natural aspiration is one of our main selling propositions.” strengthened Andreas Preuninger, Porsche GT development boss.

The Porsche 718 GT4 is likely to set to arrive next year. However, we are still unsure about what will power this super car as the Cayman GT4 engine (3.8-liter engine) was eliminated when the facelifted version of the 911 was powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder boxer engine.

Although official information hasn't been revealed yet, Car & Drive speculates that Porsche 718 GT4 will be using a detuned version of 4.0-liter engine which is used in the Porsche 911 GT3.

This 4.0-liter engine can push out 500 PS (493 horsepower), but it seems that Porsche will make it less powerful. If the Porsche Cayman GT4’s output falls between 911 and the 911 S, the 718 GT4 is probably to produce an output of around 400 PS (394 horsepower).

Preuninger also confirmed that the new 718 GT4 will not lose its manual transmission and an optional PDK transmission would be available.
