News sources say that this is part of an “internal review.”

The Australian Electric Vehicle Association (AEVA), a non-profit organization that promotes electric mobility in The Land Down Under, has spotted a fully-electric truck from Toyota.

Dubbed the Hilux Revo EV Concept, this truck was seen by the said group at the Freemantle Port area in Perth, Western Australia. And yes, this is the same concept that debuted in Thailand a year ago. Pictures of the vehicle were then posted on AEVA’s official Twitter page.

As per previous reports, we already know that the Toyota Hilux will be getting a mild-hybrid variant in the future. Do remember though, that the Japanese brand did roll out the Hilux Revo EV Concept to kick-start its EV ambitions which will fully materialize with the launch of 10 new EVs by 2026.

The appearance of the Hilux EV in Australia however, might be a signal that the brand is already testing the waters so to speak. This is supported by the fact that a report from Aussie car site CarExpert, says that the concept EV truck was sent as a part of an “internal review.” This was shared with the source by a Toyota spokesperson.

Regarding the pictures of the Hilux EV concept taken in Perth, it comes in the form of a single cab just like the one that debuted in Thailand in 2022. It gets the same closed-off grille, but other than that, it sports an identical look to the single-cab versions of the Hilux sold in Thailand and Australia.

Interestingly, the Hilux EV is seen with a Combined Charging System, or “Combo 2” (CCS2) charging port. This is one of the more popular EV charging ports on this side of the world, and it is seen on many locally available EVs like the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Even the EV charging car parks established by SM Supermalls and Hyundai Philippines use this type of port.

So does this mean that Toyota is considering the ASEAN market, and by extension the Philippine market as a viable EV market? For now, we don’t know. On the other hand, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is focusing on hybrid products and that might be a good step into eventually bringing in EVs right?

The current 8th generation offers a more refined and stylish design than its predecessor, but the tradition of being a tough pickup continues. It received a much-awaited refresh in 2020.
