Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announces a new Management Policy and Direction, which provides a picture of the Japanese automaker’s plans for the future. One of the initiatives is the introduction of all-new electric pickup truck models.

Present at the New Organization Policy press briefing were TMC officials including President and CEO Koji Sato, Executive Vice President Hiroki Nakajima, and Executive Vice President Yoichi Miyazaki.
Miyazaki, who presented the company’s regional strategies, said that Asia and other emerging markets would get the all-electric pickup truck models. The local production of these models is slated to start by the end of 2023.
“In Asia and other emerging markets, we will make sure to respond to the growing demand for battery EVs. Specifically, by the end of the year, we will start local production of the battery EV pickup and will also launch a small battery EV model,” said Miyazaki.
Hilux Revo BEV concept
To give us a glimpse of an electrified Toyota pickup, the automaker unveiled a concept called Hilux Revo BEV (battery electric vehicle) last December 2022. While the design remained similar to the current Toyota Hilux, the concept comes with a grille-less front fascia as BEVs don’t need air intakes for cooling powertrain components.
Towing and payload capacities will be crucial in making the all-electric pickup stand out in the market. The EV range will also be an important factor for prospective buyers, especially for those who will be looking to use the zero-emission truck as a workhorse vehicle.
In addition to the electric pickup truck models, Toyota will also release 10 new BEVs by 2026. This is said to amount to 1.5 million vehicles of annual sales.
New Organization Policy press briefing
The New Organization Policy ultimately aims to reduce average CO2 emissions for vehicles by 33 percent by 2030. Toyota is also fully committed to achieving carbon neutrality over the entire life cycle of its vehicles by 2050.
“Let’s change the future of cars! This is our theme as we aim to become a mobility company. Based on our unshakable motives, we will take on challenges with strong will and passion. Please look forward to the Toyota from now. We thank you again for your time today,” concluded Sato.
