The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has already started imposing an additional safeguard tariff on vehicle imports in most car brands including Toyota, Chery, Isuzu, and Mitsubishi. The safeguard duties are imposed by the DTI to protect local manufacturers and to keep their businesses alive.
However, Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP), the official distributor of Geely vehicles in the country, announced that its vehicles won’t be affected by the additional safeguard tariff just yet as dealers still have enough inventory that is not covered by the said safeguard policy. Instead, the price increase will be applied to Geely vehicles in April 2021.
Geely Coolray subcompact crossover
Geely has three vehicles made available for the local market, namely the Coolray, Azkarra, and Okavango. The Coolray is a subcompact crossover that happens to be the brand’s best-selling unit. Meanwhile, the Azkarra is a premium-looking compact crossover that comes with a mild-hybrid system. Lastly, the Okavango is a 7-seater SUV launched in the country last November 2020.
According to DTI’s safeguard policy, imported passenger cars should come with an additional Php 70,000 per unit, while imported light commercial vehicles should come with an additional Php 110,000 per unit. With the inclusion of VAT, prices go up to Php 78,400 and Php 123,200.

SGAP encourages Filipino car buyers to take advantage of the current Geely vehicle prices which will last until the end of March 2021.
The base price for a Geely vehicle is Php 978,000 for the Coolray Comfort variant and goes up to Php 1,487,000 for the newly-added Urban Plus variant of the Okavango.
