The Suzuki Ertiga 2019 Black Edition: Dark, sleek, and clean inside the cabin

Updated Mar 25, 2019 | Same topic: Most Updated Car Concept

The Suzuki Ertiga 2019 gets a new option for its interior and its sleek black everywhere.

After a very well received launch of the new Suzuki Jimny 2019, you might want to think the Suzuki would take a break and give itself a congratulatory pat on the back, all the while popping champagne all around in gleeful celebration.

After all, Suzuki well deserves the praise as the new Suzuki Jimny and even its previous versions are well deserving of the attention of car lovers everywhere. Suzuki though, like the relentlessly hardworking company we all know them to be has another surprise for us.

Seemingly out of the blue, Suzuki launched something to update and improve the Suzuki Ertiga MPV. Specifically as one of its trim versions. It is called Suzuki Ertiga 2019 Black Edition. Sounds cool eh?

The exterior look and overall shape of the Ertiga, however, remains unchanged but regardless, still looks smooth and refined but reserved. So what have they added then huh?

The exterior however of the Ertiga remains unchanged and still looks like this

What the Ertiga Black Edition is concerned with primarily is the interior of the vehicle. And yes, as the name implies, it comes now comes in that color we all know and love on and inside our vehicles; the luxurious, suave, and definitely sexy black.

As the name implies, almost everything inside the Suzuki Ertiga 2019 Black Edition comes in black. The seats are now covered in black. The dashboard, entirely black. The steering wheel now comes in black and even the hand brake lever and shifter is now black.

What remains unchanged of course is the faux wood paneling found on parts of the dash and doors. Combined with the now dark interior though, the faux wood give the interior of the Suzuki Ertiga 2019 a more posh, more sophisticated and luxurious feel than ever before.

Wan’t feel like Bruce Wayne while still driving your family around? Then get the Suzuki Ertiga Black Edition.

In comparison to the relentless beige color of the old interior, especially on the glove box, climate controls, and seat covers, the new Black Edition not only gives that new luxurious look but also, in our experience here at Philkotse.com at least, some bit of stain resistance.

That single point, aside from looking quite good, is what gives the Black Edition Ertiga its portion of practicality points because as well all know too well, kids playfully rampaging inside your beloved family car will eventually leave some stains.

Even adults too can leave sweat stains on the seats due to repetitive contact with the fabric. The black however somewhat alleviates that a little bit. One downside to having a jet black interior though is that black really loves to soak in the heat but that too can be easily remedied.

Looks both comfortable and stylish.

The Suzuki Ertiga 2019 Black Edition trim can come with the GA and the GLX versions at these very affordable prices:

Suzuki Ertiga Launch

The Suzuki Ertiga was first introduced back in 2012 in India. The Philippine-spec model was then launched in 2014. Later in 2019, the 2nd-generation model for this Suzuki-made MPV entered the local market. It sports a completely new exterior design and a new engine, and it uses the new HEARTECT platform.

Suzuki Ertiga Exterior

The 2nd-gen Suzuki Ertiga for the Philippine market has changed a lot from its previous version. It has a more modern-looking front fascia, and rear end, as well as a more contemporary-looking roofline. For exterior equipment, the standard on all variants are LED taillamps, halogen turn signals, and halogen headlamps. Also available on the higher-end trims are side skirts, front fog lamps, and side-mirror-mounted turn signal repeaters.

All variants of the MPV come standard with a manual front air conditioner. However, only the top-spec Ertiga GL gets to benefit from rear manual air conditioners.

Suzuki Ertiga Colors

The 2024 Suzuki Ertiga is a spacious, practical, and family-friendly MPV with a sleek, quiet, but graceful exterior design. For the Philippine market, there are 7 Suzuki Ertiga colors to choose from, all of which enhance the qualities of the Suzuki-made seven-seater MPV model.

Specifically, there are the Suzuki Ertiga in Red Pearl finishes (Radiant Red Pearl and Burgundy Red Pearl), Suzuki Ertiga White (Snow White Pearl), Suzuki Ertiga Silver (Silky Silver Metallic), Suzuki Ertiga Black (Cool Black Metallic), Suzuki Ertiga in Gray (Magma Gray Metallic), and Suzuki Ertiga Brown (Brave Khaki Pearl). Of note, all three Ertiga trims can come in any of the seven colors listed above.

Technology & Safety

The top-spec Ertiga GL variant for the Philippine market is equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This head unit can connect via USB and Bluetooth. As for the GA, it is equipped with a 1-DIN audio system with USB connectivity for music files only. Standard on all Ertiga trims is a four-piece speaker system.

For safety, the Suzuki-made MPV comes standard with an anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution, SRS airbags, ISOFIX tethers, and door beams for side impacts. Moreover, the GL variants also come with two parking sensors and a security alarm.

Platform & Chassis

The 2nd-gen Suzuki Ertiga for the Philippine market uses the new HEARTECT chassis. This new chassis was designed for safety and also provides a smooth, comfortable ride.

Suspension-wise, the Ertiga uses a MacPherson strut type for the front, and a torsion beam rear suspension. For braking, the Suzuki model uses a front disc brake and a rear drum brake. Its hand brake is a hand-operated manual type. Lastly, this model also uses a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout.

Size-wise, this Suzuki-made MPV has a length of 4,395mm, a width of 1,735mm, and a height of 1,690mm. It also has a ground clearance of 180mm.

Suzuki Ertiga Engine & Drivetrain

Propelling the Philippine-spec Ertiga is the K15B 1.5-liter inline-4 gasoline engine. At most, this four-banger can make up to 103 horsepower and 138 Nm of torque. Depending on the variant, it either uses a four-speed automatic transmission or a five-speed manual transmission.

Available colors for the Suzuki Ertiga Philippines are Magma Gray Metallic, Cool Black Pearl Metallic, Silky Silver Metallic, Brave Khaki Pearl, Snow White Pearl, Radiant Pearl Red, and Burgundy Red Pearl.

The Suzuki Ertiga leans onto the budget side of the MPV market so the lack of upscaled features is expected. It doesn't come with LED headlamps, leather seats, and cruise control even for the top-of-the-line GLX variant. These features are available in its rivals such as the Mitsubishi Xpander 2024 and Maxus G50. But for a starting price of Php 763,000, Filipino car buyers can now drive home a 7-seater vehicle that delivers the practicality and reliability one can expect from a Suzuki.
