The SUV is the world’s first to be inspired by Ultra4 Racing.

Ford’s next-generation Bronco off-roader now gets a race-inspired version with the debut of the 2022 Bronco Raptor midsize SUV, which the automaker has dubbed the nameplate’s most powerful street-legal version ever.

The first-ever 2022 Bronco Raptor was developed by Ford Performance

The Bronco Raptor is reportedly the world’s first SUV inspired by Ultra4 Racing, a motorsport series for four-wheel-drive vehicles competing in single-day races under grueling off-road conditions. Developed under the codename “Warthog,” the vehicle was designed and engineered by Ford Performance, which also produces the F-150 Raptor

“We poured all of our passion and all of our Bronco and Raptor know-how into creating this absolute desert-racing beast,” said Ford Motor Company president and CEO Jim Farley. “It’s the real deal. It’s not for show and it’s not for everybody. But for people who love to get out in the wild, it’s the ultimate. And only Ford can create a Bronco Raptor.”

With the Bronco Raptor’s arrival, the Raptor line marks its third member, including the F-150 Raptor for the North American market and the Ranger Raptor sold overseas.

Exterior

Dimensions for the new Bronco Raptor stand at 4,851mm in length, 2,207mm in width, and 1,976mm in height on a 2,959mm wheelbase. Even the front and rear tracks on the Bronco Raptor have grown wider by at least 200mm over the standard Bronco

The fascia features signature circular headlamps flank Ford block letters on the two-piece rectangular grille. Ford Performance included a heavy-duty modular steel bumper with tow hooks over the bash plate, removable end caps, and integrated exterior lighting by Rigid for enhanced illumination during off-road conditions.

An integrated vent is present on the muscular sheet-molded hood, accompanied by Raptor logos on either side. Vents are also present on the front fenders, also sculpted from sheet-molded compound while sitting on top of wide black flares. The Bronco Raptor adopts the standard Bronco’s modular design with removable doors and top, while reinforced rails and removable running boards allow flexibility on rocky terrain.

Redesigned LED tail lamps rest on both sides of the tailgate that mounts a full-size spare tire. A set of 17-inch bead-lock capable alloy wheels mounted on BF Goodrich all-terrain tires sets the Bronco Raptor 333mm above the ground.

Interior

Inside, the Bronco Raptor seats up to five occupants on Black Onyx marine-grade vinyl seats, accompanied by rubberized floors and room for cargo behind the second-row seats. The upholstery can be upgraded to laser-perforated Black Onyx Neo suede material and carpet flooring.

The interior features orange and carbon fiber accents

Ford Performance Code Orange trim is present in areas such as the dashboard air-conditioning vents, door netting, and steering wheel stitching. Specific touchpoints such as grab handles and gear shift lever have low-gloss carbon fiber accents.

Tech & Safety

The meaty steering wheel features various switches for communications and multimedia, resting in front of a 12-inch all-digital instrument cluster. A similarly sized central display runs Ford’s SYNC 4 operating system and offers swipe capability, information on-demand, and enhanced voice recognition. This is patched to an available 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen speaker system. \

Safety systems include six airbags with rollover sensors for both seating rows, AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, trailer sway control, and anti-lock brakes. An exterior camera array offers 360-degree viewing capability to remove blind spots.

Engine & Drivetrain

Power on the Bronco Raptor comes from a twin-turbo 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 gasoline engine, tweaked to Raptor specifications. Ford says it aims to exceed 400 horsepower with the power unit, which features dual overhead camshafts and twin independent variable camshaft timing. A 10-speed SelectShift automatic gearbox channels power to the drive wheels.

Ford has not released official output figures for the Bronco Raptor's engine

The advanced 4x4 system comprises upgraded front and rear axles, larger driveshafts, and three modes up to a 67.7:1 crawl ratio. Ford’s exclusive G.O.A.T. Modes (Goes Over Any Type of Terrain) Terrain Management System includes seven settings for a range of driving environments, while the Tow/Haul mode makes its debut on the Bronco Raptor, bringing up to 2,041 kilograms of towing capability.

Ready to drive through tough terrain

All of the Bronco Raptor’s off-road prowess is underpinned by a full-boxed steel frame, accompanied by new shock towers. Reinforcements on the B- and C-pillars make the new SUV up to 50 percent more rigid than the standard model.

Pricing

Ford has released no pricing information on the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor, but it is expected to be more expensive than the range-topping Bronco First Edition, which starts at $60,800 (over Php 3.11 million).

Bronco Raptor on rocks

Will it be a good idea to bring the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor here?

Ford will be accepting pre-orders for the vehicle in March, with the model set to be released in the U.S. sometime between June and September 2022. Do you think Ford Philippines should consider bringing this into our market?
