The MPV takes aim at the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross.

Hyundai Motor Philippines. Inc. (HMPH) is taking its MPV entry up a notch with the launching of the Stargazer X. The new variant is bringing more pronounced styling we first saw at the 2023 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS).

With the enhanced exterior, the new Hyundai Stargazer X is rivaling the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross. Does the Stargazer X have what it takes to take the fight to Mitsubishi’s rugged-looking MPV? Let’s check out what the new Hyundai has in store for prospective buyers.

Exterior

Dimensions-wise, the Stargazer X still measures the same as the standard model. Although, Hyundai added five mm of ground clearance, bringing the total to 200 mm. The MPV also rides on a larger set of 17-inch diamond-cut alloys finished with a star-like design. It is complemented by body cladding and side skirts.

It comes out as a bolder-looking MPV

The Stargazer X is likewise kitted out with LED headlights, daytime running lights, LED taillights, electric-folding side mirrors, fog lamps, and a shark fin antenna, among others.

While the lighting clusters remain the same, the new model with a two-tone paint scheme gets a different mesh pattern. The front bumper is also revised to exude a beefier appeal. Turning to the rear, we can see that the vehicle features a new bumper with silver accents and a tailgate-mounted spoiler.

Interior

Inside, the Stargazer X still can accommodate up to seven passengers. On the dashboard, the screen surrounds come in gloss black, giving a more premium-like touch compared to the silver finish in the standard Stargazer variants. The surround for the manual air-conditioning controls is also given with this treatment.

Other interior amenities include a push-to-start button, synthetic leather seats, 60:40 split-folding rear seats, 50:50 split-folding third-row seat, an illuminated center console, and a back seat table.

Tech & Safety

The cabin is equipped with an eight-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is also installed with a 12-volt power outlet, USB ports, and a wireless charger. However, unlike the Indo-spec model, the Stargazer X available in the Philippines doesn’t come with a Bose sound system. Instead, the model has four speakers with two tweeters.

It is still a seven-seater MPV

In terms of safety, the MPV features advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) functions such as forward collision-avoidance assist, lane keep assist, and blind-spot monitoring, among others. Meanwhile, some of the standard bits include dual airbags, side airbags, ABS with EBD, and hill-start assist.

Engine & Powertrain

No changes were made under the hood. This means the Stargazer X is still powered by the same 1.5-liter gasoline engine capable of generating 113 horsepower and 144 Nm of torque. It is paired with an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT), the brand’s version of a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Hyundai Stargazer Launch

The all-new Hyundai Stargazer was officially launched in the local market on October 19, 2022. Its global debut happened earlier back in August 2022, at the 29th Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show.

As of its local launch, the Stargazer has three variants available locally.

Hyundai Stargazer Exterior

The all-new Stargazer borrows several styling cues from the larger Staria. Depending on the trim, it comes with LED exterior lighting, electronic folding side mirrors, automatic light control, and a set of 16-inch wheels.

Hyundai Stargazer Interior

Inside the 2025 Stargazer are seats for seven occupants. Higher-spec trims come with leatherette seats, leather-wrapped steering wheels, a digital gauge cluster, a console box, and seat back pockets, among others.

All three trims come standard with a 60:40 split-folding second row, a 50:50 split-folding third row, and room lamp, and an overhead console.

Other driving features present on this Hyundai model include a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, a push-to-start button, remote engine starting, and plenty of USB charging ports.

Technology & Safety Features

Present on both the top-spec GLS Premium and GLS is an eight-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This headunit is then linked to a six-piece speaker system. A wireless charging pad is also available for the top-spec GLS Premium variant.

All variants come with dual-front airbags and anti-lock braking. The GLS and GLS Premium, in turn, get the addition of stability control, rearview monitor, rear parking sensors, and hill-start assist.

Only the GLS Premium comes with side and curtain airbags, blind spot collision avoidance assist, rear-cross-traffic collision avoidance assist, lake keeping assist, driver attention warning, forward collision avoidance assist, tire pressure monitoring, lane following assist, etc.

Hyundai Stargazer Platform

The Hyundai Stargazer utilizes the Hyundai-Kia K2 platform which it shares with the Creta 2025 crossover Philippines

It then assumes a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout. Handling suspension for this model is a MacPherson strut type for the front, and a torsion beam-type suspension for the rear. All trims then get a disc front brake, a drum rear brake, and a hand-operated parking brake.

Hyundai Stargazer Engine

Under the hood of all three locally available Stargazer variants is a 1.5-liter engine paired to Hyundai’s Intelligent Variable Transmission. Power is then fed to its front wheels.

With this configuration, it can make up to 113 horsepower and 144 Nm of torque.

Comparison

The Hyundai Stargazer is one of the better-equipped MPVs when it comes to driver-assist features. It also has a competent and relatively modern entertainment system with wireless connectivity and wireless charging capabilities. Most similarly sized MPVs available locally lack those two features.
