The features list of the CX-9 also gets a slight revamp.

For 2022, Mazda Philippines has brought in the latest iteration of the CX-9. For the most part, they retain the same mechanical specs, but what’s new is the CX-9 Black Edition variant plus some changes to the model’s on-board tech offerings.

So without further ado, here’s what the new Philippine-spec 2022 Mazda CX-9 is like.

Exterior

On the outside, not much has changed. The Mazda CX-9 is still a sleek, wagon-like vehicle shaped under the direction of Mazda’s Kodo design language. All trims still come standard with LED headlamps with an auto on/off function, LED taillights, front fog lamps, power-folding and power-adjustable side mirrors, as well as rain-sensing wipers.

For the CX-9 Black Edition variant though, it gets a bit more eye-catching with its black-colored grille and side mirrors, and its black 20-inch wheels. The said CX-9 also comes with a more flavorful-looking interior but more on that later.

For wheels, the new CX-9 Black Edition rides on a set of 20-inch black-colored alloys. The CX-9 Exclusive AWD, as well as the entry-level CX-9 Touring also has a 20-inch set. As a side note, the previous CX-9's entry-level variant came with a set of smaller 18-inch wheels.

Interior

Inside, the top-spec CX-9 Exclusive AWD offers the most features. It gets an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, as well as a six-way power-adjustable front passenger seat. The front row then comes with ventilation, and all of its seats are wrapped in Nappa leather with diamond pattern stitching.

The Black Edition meanwhile, is the only CX-9 trim that may come with burgundy leather seats, which provides a great contrast with the silvers and blacks of the model’s interior. Then again, it also has red interior accents, so it definitely has a more colorful interior than the other two trims.

Standard on all 2022 Mazda CX-9 variants is a push-to-start button, a 60:40 split second row, a 50:50 split third row, and dual-zone automatic climate control.

Tech & Safety

For entertainment, all CX-9 trims now come standard with a 9.2-inch LCD display headunit with Wireless Apple CarPlay, USB, and Bluetooth Connectivity. Also added to all variants is a wireless phone charger.

The Touring trim gets a set of six speakers. Meanwhile, both the Black Edition and the Exclusive trim are kitted out with a 12-piece Bose sound system.

Other amenities that are available on the 2022 CX-9's top-spec Exclusive and Black Edition trims includes an auto-dimming rear view mirror, a rear door sunshade, as well as a larger, seven-inch LCD meter display.

For safety, all 2022 CX-9 trims come standard with six airbags, anti-lock braking with electronic brake-force distribution, ISOFIX child seat tethers, front and rear parking sensors, stability control, etc.

When it comes to the Black Edition, Mazda threw in the addition of a 360-degree view camera, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.

The Exclusive then adds on to what the Black Edition has with a driver attention alert system, Smart City Brake Support (automatic emergency braking), and adaptive cruise control.

Engine & Performance

Under the hood, the 2022 Mazda CX-9 uses a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 gasoline engine. At maximum, it can make up to 228 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque. All trims then use a six-speed automatic gearbox with a gear lever for the manual mode.

Only the top-spec Exclusive variant gets all-wheel-drive. The other two trims are front-wheel-drive.

Mechanically, not much has changed for the 2022 model

Suspension-wise, the CX-9 still uses a MacPherson strut front suspension, and a rear multi-link suspension. It then gets disc brakes for all four wheels, and it also uses an electronic parking brake with an auto-brake hold function.

With some changes to its amenities and on-board features, the 2022 Mazda CX-9 is understandably a bit pricier than the outgoing CX-9 version. To provide better context, here’s the price list for the new model:
