Chinese automaker Geely’s commitment to electrifying its lineup is evident as it continues to make ambitious moves to bring it to fruition. The latest offering from this strategic move is the enhancement of the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system of one of the car brand’s best-selling models, the Geely Coolray.
2022 Geely Coolray PHEV
Named as Binyue 1.5T ePro in China, the new 2022 Geely Coolray PHEV comes with major powertrain updates that improve its performance and capabilities. It is expected to further grow the reach of the subcompact crossover after selling around 400,000 units sold worldwide since its debut in late 2018.
Exterior
For the 2022 model, the Geely Coolray PHEV has similar design cues as the Geely Coolray facelift that was introduced sometime in July 2021. It still depicts a sporty appearance thanks to its two-tone paint finish, blacked-out claddings from the front to the back, 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, rear spoiler, and quad exhaust setup.
A feature-loaded crossover
The lighting setup consists of automatic LED headlights, LED taillights, and LED daytime running lights (DRLs). As for the color options, the 2022 model of the subcompact crossover is available in Storm Blue (shown in the photos), Hot Flame Red, and Lightning White. To top the exterior off, a PHEV badge is embedded on the rear end.
Interior
Inside, the new Geely Coolray is installed with leather and fabric mixed seats. The top-spec variant benefits from a 6-way electric adjustment driver seat, while the front passenger seat comes with a 4-way manual adjustment standard. Moreover, the front seats are offered with a heated function just like the Sport Limited trim recently unveiled by Geely Philippines.
Well-rounded design inside and out
To keep passengers safe on the road, the subcompact crossover is equipped with a PM2.5 air purification system with a negative ion generator and a CN95 air filtration system. Other interior features include a keyless entry, a fully automatic A/C system, and vanity mirror lighting for the top-spec variant.
Tech & Safety
The PHEV model comes with the same infotainment system as the facelift model which is a 12.3-inch floating-type screen. It is integrated with the Geely Smart Ecosystem (GKUI) that offers an Intelligent Voice Interaction System, Intelligent Gaode Navigation System, 4G high-speed network and Wi-Fi, Bluetooth hands-free function, and E-CALL Intelligent Emergency Rescue.
The model offers advanced safety features
As for safety, it is equipped with a 540-degree view camera, driving recorder, Traction Control System (TCS), Cruise Control System (CCS), Lane Keep Assist System (LDW), Intelligent Pilot System (ICC), Lane Departure Warning System (LDW), speed-sensing door locks, and Smart Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
Engine & Powertrain
The 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine is still present in the range. But with the addition of the updated PHEV system, the power output numbers have increased from 177 to 255 hp, and from 255 to 415 Nm of torque. Moreover, the Chinese automaker boasts a pure electric cruising range from 62 to 85 km, and a fuel consumption rating of 83 km/l.
It received significant updates to improve the powertrain
Just like the previous model, the Geely Coolray 1.5T ePro uses a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) as standard. It is mounted with front ventilated disc brakes and rear solid disc type. Meanwhile, the suspension system consists of MacPherson independent front suspension and torsion beam semi-independent rear suspension.
