The Toyota Avanza scored a three-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating

The day has arrived as the MPV is put to the test at the ASEAN NCAP (New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asia) with the Daihatsu Xenia. Both the Xenia and Avanza ride on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA-B), essentially making them the same car. The former is sold as a rebadged Daihatsu in the country, which is made possible through the partnership of the two Japanese car brands.

Based on ASEAN NCAP’s current 2021 to 2025 assessment protocol, the Daihatsu Xenia earned a three-star safety rating.

The Xenia scored 26.10 out of 32 points in the adult occupant protection (AOC) category. While the front and side impact tests saw good and adequate results, the driver’s chest area only had marginal protection.

In the child occupant protection (COP) category, the MPV scored 36.63 out of 51 points. Both the front and side collision tests had great results, with the latter boasting a perfect eight out of eight score.

The safety assist category awarded the vehicle 10.50 out of 21 points. As part of the current protocol, the autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system functionality is assessed. The ASEAN NCAP confirmed the safety assist tech in the Xenia worked according to its requirements.

As for the motorcycle safety (MS) category, the MPV scored six out of 16 points. The ASEAN NCAP also confirmed the vehicle’s blind spot detection has functioned according to its requirement under the blind spot detection assessment.
