We’re in the halfway point of 2019, and things are starting to heat up when it comes to sales. With car brands ramping up through new models for their popular car marques, we can expect a big spike in sales of all departments.
Looking at the list of the bestselling cars of the world, we can find that the four-door sedan is doing pretty well despite the fact that some brands are starting to pull them from specific markets. Ford, for one, has done this for the North American market, focusing the development of SUVs and crossovers.
The numbers below were tallied by the Global Automotive Database, counting deliveries from January up to June. Most of these cars are available worldwide including the Philippines. Check out our cars for sale database to find the best car fit for your needs.
1. Toyota Corolla: 377,341 units
In first place is the perennial frontrunner, the Toyota Corolla for sale. While Ford and GM are slowing down the production of their own sedans, the Toyota Corolla wears the sales crown firmly. As the new model looms in the horizon with its new, improved styling and upgraded performance options, there never has been a better time to own one.

2. Ford F-Series: 338,446 units
America loves its trucks. People might say that this number is misleading as the Ford F-Series is a complete lineup of vehicles ranging from utilitarian to ultra-luxury models. But this doesn’t seem to veer from the fact that the Ford F-Series is one of the most popular models in the world, such as Ford F-150.
Despite the lack of sales presence in Europe and Asia, the Ford F-Series trucks are starting to breathe down the neck of the sales leader -- making this feat even more amazing.

3. Honda Civic: 266,101 units
Rounding up the top three in total global sales is another sedan. With no crossovers in a podium position, it’s a wonder how some car companies came to a conclusion that the sedan is a dying breed. The Honda Civic is available in many configurations -- from a humble and simple economy car to a crazy, balls-to-the-wall track machine.
It would be wrong to count the Honda Civic out of contention, and thanks to its formula of fun-to-drive dynamics and fuel economy, it remains as one of my own personal favorite cars.

4. Toyota RAV4: 263,099 units
It’s at this point of the list where things start to make more sense. The Toyota RAV4, first introduced in 1997, gains the distinction of being the first crossover vehicle.
Combining the driving dynamics of a compact sedan and the ride height and brawn of an SUV, the Toyota RAV4 ushered in a new wave in motoring. Recently introduced to our market, the all-new Toyota RAV4 is ready to be a bestseller in our shores as well.

5. Honda CR-V: 245,216 units
Unsurprisingly, thanks to its most recent refresh, the Honda CR-V acts as the antithesis to and nemesis of the Toyota RAV4. The two of the most popular models in the crossover segment have been battling it out on the world stage and trading places all year long.
The newest model has also been a sales leader in the Philippines despite a hike in price with the introduction of a diesel mill, a response to fans’ outcry for Honda to introduce the fuel option.

6. Volkswagen Golf: 234,696 units
Premium hatchbacks like the Volkswagen Golf haven’t had much success in the Philippines. This is further proven by the fact that Volkswagen Philippines no longer sells this model in our shores. The only available variant is the Golf GTS, which is a diesel-fed wagon -- far from the excitement the VW Golf promised.
The model will also be discontinued in the USA in favor of SUVs and crossovers. To the rest of the world, however, the Golf remains a sales powerhouse. Much like the Civic, the Volkswagen Golf is also available in a wide spectrum of performance options from a pedestrian commuter to a crazy hot-hatch. The Philippines and the Golf may not be meant for each other, with the likes of the Jazz and the Swift around.

7. Volkswagen Tiguan: 232,903 units
Volkswagen must be thanking its lucky stars to have at least one vehicle in its lineup that seems to be working well in the Asian market. The Volkswagen Tiguan is the main racehorse to grab a share in the crossover pie. Volkswagen is especially huge in the Chinese market with 40 percent of revenues coming from that market thanks in large part to the VW Tiguan.
In the region, it is competitively priced and undercuts its rivals thanks to imaginative marketing and the production of the vehicle moving to China. It’s interesting to see how the Tiguan fares in sales locally.

8. Toyota Camry: 222,531 units
The Toyota Camry was also recently refreshed and now features a more aggressive and sporty look, contrasting from the previous releases which evoke class and luxury. It seems to be working well for Toyota.
Honda has also released its competitor in the mid-size sedan segment but isn’t doing as well as the Camry, which remains a bestseller and a good alternative to a crossover for families and young professionals alike.

9. Volkswagen Polo: 218,526 units
Another non-SUV tearing it up on the top-10 list is the Volkswagen Polo, a subcompact hatchback which competes against the Jazz and the Yaris. This model used to be available in the Philippines along with the Polo Notch, a sedan variant.
Unfortunately, due to weak sales and, perhaps, poor marketing, the current distributor of VW in the Philippines chose to discontinue the model. The VW Polo is not available in the US, which means that VW is doing quite well with the model in the rest of the world.

10. Dodge RAM: 197,038 units
Rounding up the top 10 is Mr. Jekyll to the Ford’s F-Series’ Dr. Hyde. The Dodge RAM for sale is available in multiple styles and configurations from a single-cab to crew-cab, and engine configurations and drivetrains in 4x2 and 4x4. A testament to American’s love for big pick-up trucks, the Dodge RAM is the favorite alternative to Ford’s bestseller.
It’s a shame that these models are not officially available in the Philippines, but considering the size of our roads and the fuel economy penalties while driving these big trucks, I guess it’s understandable.

11. Volkswagen Lavida: 180,219 units
I decided to add the Volkswagen Lavida to the list considering how amazing the figures are for this model. The built-for-China Lavida, which is based on the VW Passat but sized as a VW Jetta, hammers out amazing year-to-date figures thanks in part to its popularity in its home-country China.
This model is also available in the Philippines with its price undercutting all of its rivals. It’s puzzling to think that we don’t see this car more often on our roads.
