The Volkswagen Golf GTS was first introduced to the Philippine market in May 2017 alongside the Jetta. It initially came in two variants which are the Business Edition and Business Edition+. In January 2018, Volkswagen Philippines added a top-spec variant called the Golf GTS Highline. Currently, the Golf GTS is not offered in the local market. Instead, you can opt to get the Santana GTS.
The body style of the Volkswagen Golf GTS (Grand Touring Sport) still adapts the DNA of its original nameplate. However, it comes with modified elements to upgrade and modernize the wagon. While it keeps the signature German luxury aesthetic through its contours, grille, and the iconic emblem, it is now decked with Bi-Xenon headlamps, LED daytime running lights, fog lights with cornering lamps, and wipers with automatic rain sensors. The stylish wagon rides on 17-inch alloy wheels. It can be had in any of these eight color variations: Black, Blue Silk, Night Blue Metallic, Platinum Grey, Pure White, Reflex Silver, Tornado Red, Tungsten Silver.
The spacious cabin of the Volkswagen Golf GTS makes it more versatile and practical. A major improvement is the trunk space which can now carry 350 liters more cargo with the rear seats folded) compared to the hatchback version. Apart from this is the generously spaced legroom, elbow room, and headroom for passengers.
As expected from the German brand, the cabin is decked in premium quality trims with a straightforward layout. The simple yet elegant interior can be had in Titan Black and Beige.
Seats and the 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel are wrapped in leather. Built-in comfort, the front seats are also equipped with two-way power-adjustable backrests with lumbar support.
Crowning the dashboard is a 6.5-inch Composition Media touchscreen infotainment system with radio, CD, MP3, Aux-in, and Bluetooth connectivity. It can be activated through voice control and is also conveniently equipped with Android CarPlay and Android Auto. Its Fender audio sound system with 8 speakers and subwoofer completes the entertainment package.
In terms of safety, the Volkswagen Golf comes with all the essentials such as airbags, cruise control, and Keyless-Go entry/exit with Safelock.
The 5-seater wagon runs on a MacPherson strut suspension in front complemented by a three-point wishbone suspension at the rear. Stopping power comes from 15-inch disc brakes that support all wheels.
Under the hood of the Volkswagen Golf is a 2.0-liter turbocharged direct injection (TDI) diesel engine mated to a 6-speed DSG Transmission system. It can produce 148hp and 340Nm of torque, with power sent exclusively to the front wheels.
