After vanishing for a long time, Volkswagen made a comeback into the Philippine market in 2013. Volkswagen Group, the biggest carmaker on earth, took Automobile Central Enterprise Inc, as the sole Volkswagen Distributor for the Philippine market- named as Volkswagen Philippines.
The official signing event took place on May 27, 2013. The occasion happens in Hongkong and was attended by Ayala Automotive Holdings’ CEO and President, John Philipp; Executive Vice President of Commercial Operations Volkswagen Group, Weiming Soh; CEO and President of Ayala Corp, Fernando Zobel de Ayala.
With various partnerships, Ayala Group is credited to enforce its dominance in the region. The German automaker started making vehicles in the 1930’s. It now appears in over 150 countries, operating 106 factories which produce over 10m units. There are 12 different auto brands represent the Group.
