Accurate detailed information is hard to determine at the moment, although it is expected to retain the engine lineup including diesel and turbocharged petrol engines. This is expected to include the 1.6 L 201 hp T-GDI powertrain which was launched in the range of the Kia Soul last year, mated to a dual-clutch seven-speed transmission.

The change to the new platform is also hoped to improve the Kia Soul 2019’s ability to accommodate electrification, and thus create a battery-life benefit for the next-gen iterations of the Kia Soul EV.

If the providing of AWD for the Kia Soul does actualize, there may be a new Soul with a more rugged jacket like the Trail'ster’s. This concept was actually based on the Soul, incorporating electrification and all-wheel-drive with the AC synchronous permanent magnet electric motor from a lithium-ion polymer battery mounted on the floor.
