Production-spec TJ Cruiser in the works as Toyota's newest SUV?

The popular concept in production skin should be an interesting addition to Toyota’s lineup.

The Toyota RAV4 has become one of the most superior vehicles in Toyota’s lineup due to its unrelenting progress over the years since its production in 1994. It shares the same NGA-K platform with the Toyota Camry.

Now, Toyota is developing an all-new compact SUV and it will be positioned below the Toyota RAV4 in the Japanese automaker’s lineup. Toyota’s all-new compact SUV is expected to rival against the likes of the Jeep Compass.

A new report from the Japan-based Magazine X says that the new compact SUV is to be codenamed as “地方男子”, which translates to local boy.

The new Toyota compact SUV will be the production version of the Toyota Tj Cruiser we saw from the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. With this being said, we can expect the new compact SUV to have a boxy-type design along with a lot of straight lines.

However, the new compact SUV will not be installed with sliding doors like those of the Toyota Tj Cruiser features. It will be designed with the same GA-C platform the Toyota Prius, Toyota C-HR, and Toyota Corolla uses.

The new compact SUV is expected to be 4,410mm long, 1,815mm wide, and 1,600mm high. Under the hood, it is expected to have a hybrid setup and be powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine gasoline engine accompanied by an electric motor.

Filipinos are known to be warm with Japanese cars like Nissan, Mitsubishi, and Toyota. We can all agree that we are eager to see Toyota’s new compact SUV one day driven around the country.

Plus, it can be very handy to many Filipino car buyers due to its compact dimensions and hopefully, affordable price tag. The new Toyota compact SUV is expected to be unveiled in 2022.
