Is this a good move by Chevy PH?

The Covenant Car Company, Inc. (TCCCI), Chevrolet’s distributor in the country, announced that the 2022 Trailblazer will make its debut this October, but didn’t disclose further details. This means that it seems like the company is likely planning to unveil everything we need to know about the new crossover altogether in its launch.

However, there is a piece of new early information about the PH-spec Chevrolet Trailblazer that perhaps not a lot of people didn’t see coming. In a report by Autoindustriya.com, TCCCI confirmed that the upcoming crossover will be sourced from Korea instead of China where most expected it to be.

The 2022 PH-spec Chevrolet Trailblazer will reportedly be manufactured in a General Motors (GM) plant in South Korea. Although TCCCI distributes MG vehicles in the country, the new crossover won’t be imported from SAIC-GM. That said, we can take a look at the Korea-spec Trailblazer to know what we can expect before the local debut.

A wide range of 17- and 18-inch wheels are expected to be offered by Chevrolet Philippines. The new crossover could come with a sportier trim called the RS or Redline which is expected to sit at the top of the range. While in the interior, it can be equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a heads-up display, and a 7-speaker Bose sound system.

Under the hood, a 1.3-liter EcoTec turbocharged gasoline engine is expected, making 162 hp and 240 Nm of torque. It can be paired to either a continuously variable transmission (CVT) or a 9-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, the PH-spec Trailblazer could potentially join the Suzuki Vitara as the crossovers to offer an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.

All the said features can make the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer one competitive crossover in the local market. Although, keep in mind that the price tag should be a little bit higher as Chevrolet Philippines won’t be benefiting from the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement.

Chevrolet Trailblazer Launch

The 2024 Chevrolet Trailblazer first made its appearance at the 18th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition. It was developed by General Motors Korea, and it was meant for emerging markets. Then again, it also made its debut in the North American market in 2020.

Chevrolet Philippines then followed suit and released the Trailblazer in October 2021 with two variants.

Chevrolet Trailblazer Exterior

On the outside, the new Trailblazer features an aggressive front end that looks a bit like the Camaro. The top-spec variant also gets a pair of LED headlamps, LED daytime running lights, LED front fog lamps, and silver trim pieces. The entry-level model meanwhile gets black-out trim pieces.

On both trims, this Chevy model also has a rear spoiler. Wrapping up its look is a set of 17-inch wheels.

Chevrolet Trailblazer Interior

The Chevrolet Trailblazer 2024 can seat up to five passengers. In both trims, it provides leather seats, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and a bench-type rear seat with a 60:40 split fold. Both also come with predominantly black-colored dashboards and interior pieces. The top-spec Premier trim, however, does have automatic climate control, while the entry-level LT has manual air-conditioning.

Chevrolet Trailblazer 2024 Colors

As a crossover, the Chevrolet Trailblazer 2024 looks quite aggressive with its sharp and contemporary front fascia, and its abundance of character lines. To make it stand out more, it can be had in several different colors. Specifically, the Chevrolet Trailblazer for the Philippines can come in White (Summit White and Abalone White Tri-Coat). There's also a Trailblazer in black (Black Meet Metal Metallic), Red (Crimson Metallic and Mahogany Red Metallic), Blue (Blue Glow Metallic), and Grey (Satin Steel Grey Metallic).

Technology & Safety Features

On the dashboard of both Chevrolet Trailblazer variants is an eight-inch touchscreen. For connectivity, this headunit comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth. It is also linked to a six-piece speaker system.

In terms of safety, both trims come standard with six airbags, anti-lock braking with electronic brake-force distribution, ISOFIX child seat anchors, parking sensors, a reverse camera, stability, and traction control, hill-start assist, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, rear-cross traffic alert, tire pressure monitoring, among others.

Platform & Chassis

The all-new Chevrolet Trailblazer crossover uses the GM VSS-F platform, which it shares with the North American Buick Encore and Chevrolet Sonic.

Suspension-wise, it uses a MacPherson strut for the front and a torsion beam for the rear. Braking is then handled by disc brakes for all four wheels. It also gets an electronic parking brake.

Engine & Drivetrain

Both the Chevrolet Trailblazer Premier and LT trims are propelled by a 1.3-liter turbocharged inline-3 gasoline engine. At maximum, this three-banger can make up to 155 horsepower and 236 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to its front wheels via a continuously variable transmission

The Chevrolet Trailblazer is a compact crossover that prioritizes safety as all of its safety features come standard, unlike its rivals such as the Toyota Corolla Cross and Ford Territory.
