Peugeot has unveiled the Inception Concept at the 2023 CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas.
Peugeot Inception Concept unveiled
For a short recap, Peugeot announced a concept that will provide a glimpse of its future electric vehicles (EVs) last November 2022. Now, the Inception Concept came out in the metal at the annual tech show, showcasing innovative designs and technologies the brand has in store for the EV era.
“Our ambition is simple: to make Peugeot the leading electric brand in Europe by 2030. This objective and ambitious vision paves the way for a radical transformation for the brand, as represented by the Inception Concept,” said Peugeot CEO Linda Jackson.
An all-electric car concept
Design-wise, the Peugeot Inception Concept features a futuristic styling from the front to the back. It still carries some of the brand’s signatures such as the claw head and rear lights. But new design cues such as the Tech Bar, a horizontal screen on the sides that emit different kinds of information, add to that next-gen appeal.
The concept car is based on the STLA Large platform, one of the four future Stellantis Group “BEV-by-design” platforms. This will also introduce technological modules powered by artificial intelligence (AI), namely STLA Brain, STLA SmartCockpit, and STLA AutoDrive.
The concept boasts the new Hypersquare control system
For the STLA AutoDrive, the system aims to enable Level 4 autonomous driving. Once activated, a large panoramic sunroof slides out from the floor and the new Hypersquare steer-by-wire wheel retracts. With it, the cabin can offer occupants including the driver a social space on the go.
Sustainable materials are used in the interior as part of the brand’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint. Scraps of 100-percent polyester fabric are re-used to make load-bearing or trims parts. Moreover, the seats are said to be covered with velvet made from 100-percent recycled polyester.
A glimpse into Peugeot's future EVs
Powering the concept is a 100 kWh battery with two electric motors. The combined output is 680 horsepower, enabling a zero to 100 km/h acceleration time of under three seconds. As for the range, the electric powertrain can run up to 800 km. It can also add 150 km of range in just five minutes of charging.
If you like the Peugeot Inception Concept, the French automaker will launch five new fully-electric cars starting in 2025 based on it. And by 2030, the brand looks to sell a fully electric lineup in Europe.
