2021 Nissan Navara: Engine and performance

Nissan has yet to announce the powertrain details of the new Navara. During its global debut, the Japanese automaker didn’t mention anything new about the Navara’s engine.

The current Navara uses a 2.5L turbodiesel engine with two states of tune: 161 hp and 403 Nm of torque on the base and mid-range variants, while the top-spec trim benefits from 187 hp and 450 Nm of torque. On the other hand, select markets get a 2.3-liter twin-turbo diesel.

The 2021 Nissan Navara is scheduled to go on sale in December in Thailand, with other markets to follow later. As such, we’ll know more details about the new Navara such as the powertrain options as it nears its Thai debut.

With that in mind, Nissan Philippines could bring in the new Navara before the year ends, depending on the launch date in Thailand. Or Nissan Philippines could launch the 2021 Navara in early 2021. With that, expect the local midsize pickup segment to be a battle royale as Isuzu Philippines also plans to introduce the new D-Max next year.

2021 Nissan Navara: Expected Price

The 2021 Nissan Navara is one of the most affordable pickup trucks available in the market. With this, we think that it is safe to assume that its price is one of its selling points.

Despite the updates, one can expect the Nissan Philippines will not significantly increase the price of the Navara to keep it in the competition. Plus, there is a rumor that the 2021 Nissan Navara will be manufactured locally in Mitsubishi’s factory but we think it is unlikely to happen.

If the next-generation Navara will somehow be manufactured locally, then we can expect it to have a slight dip in terms of the price range. As for the current 2020 model, the base model is priced at Php 929,000, while the top-spec variant is priced at Php 1,635,000.

For an additional splash of color, this trim also receives orange accents found on the over-fenders, as well as the faux-recovery hooks on the plastic skid plate.

Nissan Navara Interior

When the facelift model was introduced in the Philippines, much of the interior remained the same as compared to the outgoing model. The door cards are a combination of soft and hard surfaces, but the dashboard is still mostly made out of textured, sturdy plastic. Zero gravity-type seats are installed in the cabin with the VL and PRO-4X variants utilizing leather, while the lower-trim VE and EL variants come with fabric.

It is built for the off-road

We happen to put the Japanese car brand's pickup truck to the test by driving it on the famous Paoay Sand Dunes in the Philippines. The truck's stability and control are outstanding, especially with the use of its 4x4 system complemented with a differential lock for seamlessly riding through steep and uneven roads.

Making its return for the Nissan Navara Philippines’s midcycle refresh is the 2.5-liter YD25 inline-4 turbodiesel engine. Of note, there are two tunes for this engine. For all the variants except the EL, the said engine can make up to 190 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque, while the EL’s 2.5-liter mill makes a bit less at 163 horsepower and 403 Nm of torque.
