MG Philippines is bringing 7-seat RX8 midsize SUV in August 2020

The Covenant Car Company, Inc. (TCCCI), the official distributor of MG cars in the country, is planning to reveal the 7-seater MG RX8 in August 2020, at the latest. 

It is said that both the MG D90 and the MG RX8 are available for export markets. However, the RX8 has been chosen by TCCCI to enter in the local SUV segment and is set to compete against the likes of Nissan Terra, Toyota Fortuner, and Ford Everest. 

This 7 seater MG car has a measurement that spans 4,923 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width, and 1,840 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,850 mm. It uses a body-on-frame construction and features front double wishbones and rear five-links at the back.

Under the hood, the MG RX8 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine coupled to a 6-speed automatic with cruise control and paddle shifters. It is capable of producing 221 hp at 5,300 rpm and 360 Nm of torque from 2,000 to 4,000 rpm.

The 7-seater MG SUV car will come with an all-wheel-drive with a differential lock, 20-inch alloy wheels, and selectable terrain modes to solidify its off-roading capabilities. MG says that fuel consumption is rated at around 10 km/L based on its tests.

Other key features of the RX8 include LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, panoramic sunroof, power tailgate, beige leather seats with power adjustment, built-in ventilators for the front passengers, an 8-speaker sound system, and N95-certified dual climate control.

As for safety, the RX8 comes with 6 airbags (front airbags, side airbags, and curtain airbags), an electronic stability program with ABS and EBD, electronic parking brake with automatic hold, and stability control.

There is no official word from MG Philippines just yet regarding how much will the 7-seater MG car RX8 be sold locally. It is indeed loaded with many features. With that being said, many are hoping it won’t reach a Php 2.0 million price point.
