Not long after the Toyota Corolla Hatchback 2019 came out for the US market earlier today, Australian car enthusiasts have been now treated with first details of the model.
There will be two options for the powertrain. The first one is the all-new M20A-FKS 2L Dynamic Force 4-cylinder gas engine. With this option, the model comes with D-4S direct injection and VVT-iE The engine is capable of cranking out 200 Nm of torque and 168 HP. Plus, it is channeled to a 6-speed iMT which comes standard with auto-rev-matching.

This option introduces the novel Direct Shift-CVT known as the first continuously variable transmission which is equipped with a launch gear to boost the acceleration and the low-speed efficiency. Additionally, paddle shifters, a sport mode, and ten-speed virtual ratio mode all come as standard.

The other option is a hybrid variant which, for the first time, gets all trim grades, using an upgraded Prius’ 1.8L Atkinson-cycle gas engine and a pair of electric motors. There’s nothing sure about the output capability though taking the Prius for reference, it doles out 142 Nm and 97 HP from the internal combustion engine and 162 Nm and 71 HP from the twin motors, putting out 134 HP in total.
