The 11th-generation Honda Civic continues to deliver for the brand since the model’s debut in April 2021. Its latest achievement is winning the Car of the Year Award, bestowed by the North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year (NACTOY) for 2022.

A total of 50 professional automotive journalists from various media outlets in the United States and Canada judged the voting which was included after three rounds. NACTOY said that 36 vehicles made the initial list of eligible vehicles, and the Honda Civic came out on top in its category.
“2021 has been a highly significant year in automotive history,” said NACTOY President Gary Witzenburg. “We have seen groundbreaking and appealing new electric vehicles from almost every brand along with the emergence of new vehicle segments and impressive redesigns of familiar models.”
An award-winning interior design
Featuring a more mature design language, the latest Honda Civic departs from the usual aggressive styling normally seen in previous generations. The new interior layout iwas sufficiently impressive to earn the 2021 Wards Best Interior award alongside the Bentley Bentayga Speed, Ford Mustang Mach E, and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, among others.
One of the judges, veteran automotive writer Jack R. Nerad, awarded a point to the Japanese compact sedan due to its fuel efficiency. Honda claims that the latest iteration of the nameplate is more fuel-efficient than ever, a feat achieved by the model’s two engine options in the U.S. market, coupled with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and an idle-stop system.
“If carmakers were limited to building just one car model, the Honda Civic should be that model. It combines just about every positive attitude you can think of – low-cost, high fuel efficiency, utility, comfort, dependability, and fun to drive among them,” said Nerad.
The compact sedan is just getting started
Garnering second-place honors in the North American Car of the Year ranking is the Lucid Air. For the uninitiated, this is an electric vehicle (EV) manufactured by American EV company Lucid Motors, boasting an 840-km range on a single charge. Taking the third spot in the ranking is the Mk VIII Volkswagen Golf R and Golf GTI.
