BMW Xpo goes digital this 2020 with lots of surprises

The BMW X5 2024 Philippines is a midsize luxury crossover that is marked as the German marque's first-ever SUV in its lineup. It is available in the Philippines in two variants which are priced from Php 5,990,000. Powering this vehicle is a 3.0-liter inline-6 twin-turbo diesel engine capable of generating 265 horsepower and 620 Nm of torque. Only an 8-speed automatic transmission is used to send power to all four wheels via the xDrive system.

Dimensions-wise, the X5 spans 4,922 in length, 1,689 mm in width, and 1,745 mm in height, with a wheelbase rated at 2,975 mm. In the local market, this German midsize luxury crossover competes against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class, Lexus RX, and Volvo XC90.

BMW X5 Launch

The BMW X5 Series was first introduced to the global automotive market in 1999. SMC Asia Car Distributors Corp. brought the fourth-generation model to the Philippines in 2018. Currently, the model is competing in the local market with the X5 xDrive30d variant.

BMW X5 Exterior

Much like the rest of the X Series nameplates, the BMW X5 is the epitome of an athletic yet sleek vehicle. Its muscular proportions and balanced out with clean lines, giving a more authoritative and intimidating stance while keeping the premium aesthetic.

Up front is the German brand’s signature, one-piece large kidney grille flanked by modern LED headlights. Trimmed in pearl chrome are the underguards, roof rails, and window surrounds that add to the elegance of the exterior. On the rear is a larger bumper with rear spoilers and three-dimensional LED lights. The X5 rides on 20-inch light alloy wheels as standard.

BMW X5 Interior

BMW equipped the X5 xDrive30d xLine variant with a plethora of premium finishes and comfort features. The minimalist layout stays true to the German brand’s design philosophy, decked in dark soft-touch materials and brushed with metal trims. Its newly improved comfort seats are wrapped in leather and come with generous legroom and headroom. 

Even the smallest details in the cabin are thoughtfully designed as the X5 comes with cooled and heated cupholders, individual USB ports, and automatic climate control with privacy shades at the rear. An ambient lighting package is also furnished to create for a more luxurious atmosphere.

The rear seats are easily adjustable to a 40:20:40 split which expands the trunk space from 650 liters to 1,860 liters with the seats down.

Technology & Safety Features

The fourth-generation X5 comes with all the latest BMW tech and safety innovations starting with the brand’s newest Operating System 7.0. It features a simpler interface with highly customizable displays and personal settings. The system can be activated through the iDrive Controller, gesture control, and voice control. 

Crowning the dashboard is the BMW Live Cockpit Professional package which comes with two 12.3-inch display clusters. The first one is for the fully digital instrument panel and the second one is for infotainment. The driver can easily access navigation services, safety features, and the vehicle’s performance through the Live Cockpit Professional. Audio comes out of a Harman Kardon sound system.

Additional safety features include dynamic stability control, dynamic traction control, an anti-lock brake system with cornering brake control and brake assist, a crash sensor, keyless entry, front, and rear parking sensors, and a surround-view camera as standard.

Platform & Chassis

The 5-door SUV rides on a Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform, which is the same one as the new-generation BMW 3-Series. The suspension comes in the form of Adaptive Suspension and stopping power comes from disc brakes.

Engine & Drivetrain

Powering the BMW X5 xDrive30d is an inline-6 3.0-liter Twin Turbo diesel engine that is mated to an eight-speed automatic Steptronic transmission, sending power to all wheels through BMW's intelligent all-wheel-drive system called xDrive. It produces an astounding 620 Nm of torque and 265 horsepower. The SUV can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h within 6.5 seconds.

Available colors for the BMW X5 are Alpine White uni, M Carbon Black metallic, Black Sapphire metallic, Mineral White metallic, Phytonic Blue, Arctic Gray Brilliant Effect, Manhattan metallic, BMW Individual Dravit Gray metallic, BMW Individual Tanzanite Blue metallic, and BMW Individual Ametrine metallic.

The BMW X5 is a strong crossover/SUV choice in its segment but is also one of the most expensive as compared to rivals such as the Lexus RX and Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class.
