Facelifted BMW 5 Series now available in PH, retails for P4.2M

BMW Philippines officially introduced the facelifted 520i Luxury to its local lineup. The new model comes with subtle design changes from the front to the rear that enhance its premium with sporty appearance. Also, new tech features have been integrated into the brand’s executive sedan entry.

BMW 520i Luxury

The new BMW 5 Series is a good follow-up to the M5 Competition launched last year alongside two other M models. These models strengthen the presence of the nameplate in the local market. SMC Asia Car Distributors Corp., the official distributor of BMW vehicles in the country, is excited to present the more refined executive sedan to Filipino car buyers.

The updated version brings forth features that are usually found only in the higher tiers of the luxury car market. Exterior

Looking at the exterior design, the new BMW 5 Series looks similar to the non-facelift version. However, subtle changes were made to exude the sporty appeal the nameplate is known for. The brand’s signature twin-kidney grille has been redesigned to be slightly larger, coming in a single piece surrounded by chrome.

BMW tweaked the design a bit

Another exterior feature that was revamped is the lighting system. At the front, the slimmer contouring of the headlights creates a modern appeal with regards to BMW’s heritage. It now adopts new adaptive LED headlights with high-beam assistant and adaptive cornering function. As for the taillights, the facelift gets black edging and a new L-shaped graphic.

Interior

The BMW 520i Luxury is equipped with the Comfort Access system, allowing a convenient way of locking and unlocking the vehicle, as long as the key is with the driver. Also, this system comes with a kick function for easier access to the cargo bay.

One familiar cabin layout

Stepping into the cabin, the executive sedan comes with a soft close function which pulls the doors quietly for a more upscale feel right off the bat. Premium amenities can be found in the interior including Dakota leather seats, ambient lighting package, and 4-zone automatic climate control.

Tech & Safety

New to the 5 Series is a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster display that provides a more engaging driving experience. Some of the tech features include the BMW Live Cockpit Professional in Operating System 7.0, BMW Gesture Control, 16-speaker Harmon Kardon surround system, and connectivity options such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

It features tech updates

Safety-wise, the vehicle comes with six airbags, an anti-lock braking system (ABS), dynamic stability control (DSC), passive protection for pedestrians, run flat tires with indicator, and ISOFIX child seat mounting. It also gets active and passive protection systems to minimize the risks of colliding with pedestrians and other vehicles.

Engine & Performance

Under the hood, the 520i Luxury is still powered by the same 2.0-liter inline-4 BMW TwinPower Turbo engine capable of delivering 184 hp and 290 Nm of torque. This engine sends power exclusively to the rear wheel via an 8-speed automatic transmission with Steptronic as standard.

The model uses the same award-winning engine

The executive sedan can go from zero to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds, with the horsepower and torque peaking at 5,000 – 6,500 rpm and 1,350 – 4,250 rpm, respectively. As for fuel efficiency, BMW claims that the model gives 14.5 km/l in the city and 21.7 km/l on the highway (18.5 km/l combined).

Price

BMW Philippines is offering the new 520i Luxury at Php 4,290,000, now available in its dealerships nationwide. As for after-sales programs, the model comes with a 5-year or 200,000-km warranty, whichever comes first.

BMW 5 Series

The updated 2023 BMW 5 Series Philippines is a five-door executive sedan. As of the 2023 facelift, the sole variant of this model available locally is the 520i Luxury 2.0 AT. It is available at all BMW dealerships nationwide for Php 4,290,000. 

Under the hood, this facelifted model uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 gasoline engine capable of making 184 horsepower and 290 Nm of torque. It then uses an eight-speed Steptronic transmission, which sends power to its rear wheels. 

Size-wise, the BMW 520i Luxury comes with a length of 4,963mm, a width of 1,350mm, and a height of 1,479mm. It also has a wheelbase length of 2,975mm. 

Locally, the 2023 BMW 520i Luxury competes against the like of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Lexus IS, Jaguar XF, Audi A6, among others.
