The first version to be released is the Crown crossover.

Toyota Motor has debuted the all-new Crown. It comes in four different forms. The first to be released is the Crown crossover, and it will then be followed by the “Sport type” hatchback, a sedan model, as well as an estate type model.

Of note, the Toyota Crown, in its original form, was one of Toyota’s most important models. It helped the marque gain entry into the American market, and it was also its first-ever mass-production passenger vehicle that was created with the brand’s proprietary technologies.

The 15th-generation Crown model was discontinued just this year. The new 16th-generation Crown then replaces it, though Toyota has considered it as a “reboot” of the Crown nameplate.

So, what does the recently released Crown crossover look like inside and out? To find out, let’s check it out in detail.

Exterior

As mentioned, the newly revived Crown is more like a nameplate than a singular model. Then again, there are plenty of characteristics shared between the four individual Crown variants.

The recently released Crown crossover features an aggressive front end equipped with slit-thin, swept-back LED headlamps. It then gets a large lower intake combined with a very slim main grille. The front corners of the new Crown also look muscular with sharp-cut angles.

Going to the Crown Crossover type’s sides, it still features some bits of black plastic cladding much like other crossovers in the market today. And yet, it doesn’t have much in the way of character lines. This gives it a smoother, more sophisticated feel compared to other crossovers in the market.

The rear door however, is unusual for a crossover due to its sloping orientation. This though, won’t look like it would interfere with headroom and cargo loading and unloading. Furthermore, the rear also mirrors the front end in that it gets a thin LED strip for its taillights.

Of course, the four different Crowns assume vastly different silhouettes. The Estate and Crossover types are dubbed by the brand as SUVs, the Sport is more like a hatchback, while the Sedan is a sleek executive model reminiscent of the previous-gen Crown.

Interior

Inside, the all-new Crown crossover features a minimalist layout. It looks less busy than your typical luxury car, and the dashboard in particular is straighter than the old model’s.

Toyota is yet to release a complete list of the new Crown’s interior features, but we do know that it gets plenty of leather and soft-touch surfaces. It also assumes a two-tone look that is pleasing to the eye. Toyota also shared that the new Crown has a total of four different interior color combinations.

Tech & Safety

There’s no word on the exact Crown crossover’s entertainment system, but from the pictures, we can see that it is a wide model that’s positioned seamlessly inside a singular piece together with the digital dashboard.

Safety for the new Crown crossover is then handled by the latest version of the Toyota Safety Sense. This will include a pre-crash safety system, lane trace assist, lane departure alert, radar cruise control, adaptive high beams, driver monitoring, lead car notification, emergency steering support with active steering function, front and rear cross-traffic alert, among others.

Besides the very comprehensive list of driver assist features, the new Crown crossover also comes with Toyota Teammate. This system is then capable of helping drivers navigate traffic congestion, and it also comes with an automated parking function.

Engine

For the crossover under the Crown nameplate, two engine options will be made available. There’s a 2.5-liter Series Parallel Hybrid, and a 2.4-liter turbocharged hybrid.

Power figures are yet to be provided by the Japanese marque, though the brand assures that these can provide smooth driving performance and fuel efficiency both.

Both engines use the Toyota E-Four hybrid vehicle four-wheel-drive system. And yes, this is the same system currently in use in several Lexus hybrid crossovers and many other Toyota AWD hybrids.

For transmissions, the 2.5-liter version uses a reduction gear system, while the 2.4-liter variants get a direct-shift six-speed automatic.

Price

Pricing for the 2023 Toyota Crown Crossover starts at 4,350,000 Yen or around Php 1,775,000 as per current exchange rates. This is before taxes and other fees.

The said model also has a total of seven different trims, and all of them are built at the marque’s Motomachi Plant and Tsutsumi Plant. The brand then sees to sell 3,200 Crown units per month in Japan alone.
