For those who don’t remember, GAC entered the Philippine market with a bang. And during this event, the Chinese car brand introduced several crossover models at once. Suffice to say, it is quite obvious that the brand is looking to get a cut of the fast-growing crossover market.

Fast forward to the fourth quarter of 2021, the brand is once again shaking up the crossover segment by updating the GAC GS4. It is now in its second-generation, and it comes with a whole host of improvements to its exterior styling, its features, and its powertrain.

So, what does the GAC GS4 for model year 2022 offer a prospective buyer?

Exterior

On the outside, the GAC GS4 still assumes the familiar compact crossover form. Unlike the older version though, this new one comes with a revised grille which looks quite similar to the one found on the GAC GN6.

Apart from that, the new GS4 now gets dual front LED headlamps, LED daytime running lights, a pair of power adjustable side mirrors, as well as a new angular bumper.

From the side, one can see that it gets a set of more modern-looking 17-inch wheels wrapped in 215/60 tires. Also noticeable is the set of deeper, more angular character lines. The rear then gets an LED high mounted brake light, LED taillights, spoiler, and a shark-fin antenna.

Interior

Like its predecessor, the 2022 GS4 can comfortably seat up to five whilst having ample space for cargo. Its occupants are then kept comfortable with an automatic air-conditioning system with vents for the second row.

The seats themselves are wrapped in leatherette, and the same goes for the steering wheel. Furthermore, the driver is provided with a six-way manually adjustable seat. The second-row seats also have a 60:40 split folding function.

The highlight of the GAC GS4 is the presence of a panoramic sunroof. This of course makes the all-new GS4 one of the most affordable cars in the Philippine market equipped with that feature. More on its price later.

Tech & Safety

For entertainment, the all-new 2022 GS4 comes standard with an eight-inch touchscreen headunit. For connectivity, this unit has Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, and USB ports. It is then connected to a six-piece speaker system with a speed-based volume adjustment.

Other notable features on the GS4 include an Eco mode to save on fuel, a rear-view camera, parking sensors, and cruise control.

Safety-wise, the new GS4 is kitted out with an engine immobilizer with a car alarm, dual-front airbags, front-side airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, hill-start hold control, hill descent control, anti-lock braking with electronic brake-force distribution, stability control, tire pressure monitoring, among others.

Engine

Under the hood of the 2022 GAC GS4 is a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-4 gasoline engine that can make up to 166 horsepower and 265 Nm of torque. The said engine is paired with a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox sending power to its front wheels.

Price

Of note, this makes the GS4 one of the more powerful compact crossovers in the market. And for that, GAC has priced the sole GS4 1.5T GDI AT variant at Php 1,098,000. The said price tag allows the all-new GAC GS4 to undercut its segment rivals such as the Ford Territory, MG RX5, Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, among others.
