Nissan has revealed that it is planning to launch a total of 27 fully electric and hybrid e-POWER vehicles by 2030. Out of the 27, 19 models will be electric vehicles (EVs), and 8 will be hybrids. This is a part of the Nissan Ambition 2030, a long-term target wherein the brand intends to go all-in on electric-powered mobility.
Nissan has launched a couple of EV concept cars. One of them is this - the Chill Out Concept
Note that a prior announcement from Nissan regarding this initiative intended to launch only 23 EVs and hybrid models by 2023. The more recent increase to 27 different models was brought upon as an adaptation to the current business environment, as well as changes in customer needs.
By adding even more EVs and hybrid models, the brand can accelerate its electrification efforts. This move can likewise attain a more diversified lineup for the brand when 2030 rolls in.
Note that the previously projected mix of Nissan and INFINITY electric-powered models sold globally by 2023 was at 50 percent. Now, it is predicted to go up by 55 percent. This in turn means that only 45 percent of Nissan models sold worldwide by 2023, will use a more traditional internal combustion-only powertrain.
This coincides with Nissan’s new forecast for its 2026 global car sales mix. For Europe, 98 percent of Nissan cars sold will be EVs or hybrids. Japan and China will likewise see a sales mix of 58 percent and 35 percent, respectively.
The odd one out of these forecasts is the US market. It will still see a sales mix of 40 percent, but this figure is only valid for fully electric cars only.
Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida together with Nissan director, representative executive officer, and COO Ashwani Gupta
In summing these forecasts all up, Nissan’s global sales mix of electric vehicles and hybrids now sits at 40 percent by the fiscal year 2026.
Why so many EVs and hybrid models? Well, Nissan is planning to release localized models for each region. China for example will get an EV model specifically designed for its market.
The European market, in turn, will continue to see EV models and other EV-related plans from Nissan. Collaborations with Nissan’s partners, namely Renault and Mitsubishi, will also be explored for this region.
Will any of those future 27 EVs and hybrid models reach the Philippine market?
