Nissan Max-Out EV Concept revealed in physical form 

Nissan has unveiled the Max-Out EV Concept in the metal, two years after the automaker first presented it as a digital render and confirming rumors about the model’s identity. 

The reveal took place as part of the launch for the company’s Nissan Futures event taking place from February 4 to March 1, which will showcase its efforts at future innovation and sustainable mobility. Nissan’s Global Headquarters Gallery in Yokohama will host the exhibit, where the Max-Out will be on display throughout the run to be viewed by the public free of charge. 

Previously existing only as a digital render in 2021, the Max-Out is an ultralightweight electric convertible concept that Nissan says is designed to exude the liberation of the open road while delivering an enhanced and dynamic driving experience. This is emphasized by the vehicle’s low stance, featuring an angular front end. A striking grid pattern on the hood and wheels evokes 80s-era science-fiction films. 

The electric convertible concept brings a retro-futurist vibe

Behind the raked one-piece wraparound windshield lies a large digital display practically spanning the length of the dashboard, complete with a steering yoke. While it features two seats on board, the Max-Out was also engineered to have a configurable interior, with the passenger seat able to fold or ‘morph’ away, turning the Max-Out into a single-seat roadster. 

At the time of its digital premiere, the Max-Out was one of four electric concepts under the Nissan Ambition 2030 long-term vision for sustainable mobility. The rest comprise the Chill-Out coupe crossover, Surf-Out electric off-road pickup, and Hang-Out people mover.   

One or both seats can be tucked away, expanding the cabin's space 

Notable features present on all of these Nissan electric concepts are all-solid-state-batteries (ASSBs), e-4ORCE dual-motor all-wheel powertrain, and an Advanced ProPilot driver-assist suite. 

Observers have hinted that the Max-Out could serve as the basis for a long-awaited GT-R replacement that brings hybrid and pure electric propulsion, following Nissan Motorsports chief Takao Katagiri’s pronouncement that the automaker is working on a new sports car for North America and Europe.
