A sole teaser image was released in preparation for the model’s global debut in October.

BMW has confirmed that the eighth-generation 5 Series will be getting all-electric versions. It was even confirmed at the 2023 BMW Group Annual Conference that an all-electric 5 Series M Performance model will be rolled out as well.

Here's the upcoming 5 Series. Not much of its details can be seen

According to BMW, this was made possible thanks to the car brand’s new flexible powertrain architecture. The said architecture not only allows the 5 Series to become fully electric, but it also enables this model to come in a plug-in hybrid variant, as well as a 48-volt mild hybrid variant.

It was also stated by the German carmaker that the all-new 5 Series will feature a “fresh interpretation of its signature, elegantly sporting design.” The brand also shared that the upcoming next-gen Bimmer will be fitted with a new curved display just like the new BMW 318i Sport that was recently introduced to the Philippine market.

Other than those mentioned above, not many details are known about the upcoming 5 Series full model change, for now.

At the aforementioned BMW Group Annual Conference, BMW AG Chairman of the board of Management Oliver Zipse mentioned that the BMW i4 M50 showed the world that an electric-powered car can indeed live up to the M Performance moniker.

He added that the i4 M50 was the best-selling M model worldwide in 2022. From this, one can see that it only makes sense for the brand to work on developing a fully electric-powered BMW 5 Series M Performance version as well. There’s also the fact that the upcoming BMW i5 sedan is part of the brand’s efforts in expanding its electric car portfolio.

Note that the next-generation BMW 5 Series Sedan will be launched in October 2023. It remains to be seen, however, whether the all-electric 5 Series M Performance model will be launched at the same upcoming event, or at a later date.

The upcoming next-generation BMW 5 Series will then be built at the BMW Group’s Dingolfing Plant in Lower Bavaria, Germany. Its electric motors and high-voltage batteries will be made in-house.
