All-new Ford Ranger loaded with smart tech features

It might just be “the most high-tech" midsize pickup to date.

While the current Ford Ranger already has a competent set of safety features, the all-new, next-gen Ranger is taking it to the next level. This is thanks to an extensive suite of advanced safety features combined with several new and upgraded driver-assist technologies.

The all-new, next-generation Ford Ranger

To start off, the next-gen Ford Ranger’s design was penned with the help of computer-aided engineering (CAE). Through this, digital models were subjected to numerous simulated accident scenarios like pedestrian impacts, full-frontal crashes, rear offset crashes, and many others.

The Ranger’s body structure was then tweaked to provide the optimal amount of safety in the event of a crash. Physical models were then subjected to real-life crash tests to confirm the CAE’s design.

To further back up its crash-worthy design, Ford also kitted out the next-gen Ranger with a post-collision braking system, which helps reduce the chances of a secondary collision.

Even before that is needed, the Ranger’s pre-collision assist system is there, and it now comes with a new wide-view windscreen-mounted camera, as well as a front bumper-mounted radar. These can detect road obstacles, and a warning is then given to the driver.

If the driver cannot apply the brakes in time, then there’s the Ford Ranger’s automatic emergency braking system (AEB). For the next-gen Ranger, this piece of tech was upgraded to be able to detect cyclists and pedestrians.

The all-new 2022 Ford Ranger is also the very first midsize pickup truck to come with evasive steer assist. As the name implies, the steering of the truck is “boosted” thus allowing the driver to make evasive maneuvers easier.

Also new to the next-gen Ranger is a reverse brake assist system. This in turn helps potential collisions when backing up. Like the AEB, this can also detect obstacles and even moving objects, and can apply the brakes automatically if the driver fails to do so.

Currently, Ford Philippines has already marked the next-gen Ranger as an “upcoming model” on its official page. With that said, we are excited to see the Philippine-spec version equipped with the technologies mentioned above. Not that we’re hoping to actually use them, but these are really nice to have considering our busy roads.
