The next-generation Ford Ranger Raptor is all set to make its debut on February 22. But before its official launch date, Ford has pitted it to a test run that’s meant to push the off-road performance truck to the limit.
Pushing the Limit with the Next-Gen Ford Ranger Raptor
The new teaser video features a prototype version of the next-gen Ranger Raptor that’s being driven purposefully on a remote location. Amid the trail of dust, you can significantly hear a familiar engine sound, a hint that the upcoming Ford Ranger Raptor could indeed come with a V6 gasoline engine.
Ford has remained tight-lipped in regards to the specs of the next-gen Ranger Raptor. It only says that it will be the “most-powerful factory-built Ranger Raptor ever” that intends to “deliver a whole new level of performance.”
Next-gen Ford Ranger Raptor is ready to make its presence felt
Reports state that it could be powered by a turbocharged V6 gasoline engine that’s similar to the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 found on the Ford Bronco Raptor that is said to deliver more than 400 hp. The said engine is connected to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Ford Explorer ST also comes with a 3.0-liter V6 that puts out 400 hp and 563 Nm of torque. It also features the same 10-speed automatic gearbox.
To put things in perspective, the current Ford Ranger Raptor available in the Philippines is equipped with a 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel engine that churns out 210 hp and 500 Nm.
The next-gen Ford Ranger Raptor doing a test run
The latest teaser video also showed a glimpse of the next-gen Ranger Raptor’s interior. From the looks of it, it will have a digital instrument cluster that’s similar to the regular Ranger pickup that debuted last November 2021. The Ranger Raptor will also come with paddle shifters.
Ford has also provided a sneak peek into the next-gen Ranger Raptor’s rear end. It has a similar taillight design with the regular Ranger but sets itself apart through the ‘Raptor’ badge as well as the more prominent fender flares. The teaser also suggests that the Ranger Raptor’s side mirror is integrated with a camera.
