Multinational sportswear label Puma is no stranger to cars, having forged partnerships with some of the biggest names in motorsport, most especially Ferrari. The teamwork between the two brands goes back to the late 90s, with Puma driving shoes made for Formula 1 racers eventually trickling down to casual variants.
The ION F is the latest product of Puma's collaboration with Ferrari
This continuing partnership yields a new shoe model that will have both sneakerheads and gearheads raring to get off the starting line. Puma has launched the ION F sneaker as part of Ferrari’s fashion-led collection, inspired by the factories that tirelessly churn out the Italian carmaker’s masterpieces on wheels.
According to Puma, the ION F’s design and sock construction take cues from the aerodynamics and engine performance of Ferrari cars. The specific muse in this instance is the SF90 Stradale, Ferrari’s first model featuring a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Flowing lines on the car translate almost directly on the ION F’s silhouette, doing away with unnecessary bulges and ridges for a clean look especially on the shoe’s upper.
Ferrari's SF90 Stradale served as the inspiration for the shoe
A stitched version of the iconic Ferrari stallion lies just below the anatomical ankle opening. Fastening the shoe to the wearer’s foot is as easy as engaging the magnetic fit-lock buckle, referencing the immense G-forces created when whipping the SF90 Stradale around corners.
The reflective TPU panel hugging the shoe’s heel is wrapped in polyurethane foam and evokes the car’s front spoiler, accompanied by clean mesh details that add height. A Ferrari-branded pull tab leaves little doubt as to which automaker gave Puma its blessing.
There's no mistaking that iconic typeface
Three colorways are available for the Puma ION F sneaker: Rosso Corsa (the traditional red used by Italian race cars in international competitions), Puma Black, and Puma White. The shoe is now available at both Puma and Ferrari online stores, retailing for £400 (almost Php 27,000).
The ION F looks equally good in black
If even the most affordable Ferrari model is beyond your current pay grade, there might still be a chance to take the Prancing Horse home with you.
