Chery Auto is reportedly nearing the completion of its new midsize pickup truck that will compete with the likes of the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max, and Nissan Navara among others.
Chery Auto's new midsize pickup truck debuting soon?
In a report by Carscoops, Chinese car brand Chery is said to be developing a body-on-frame midsize pickup truck that will be offered in markets such as the Asia-Pacific, South America, and Europe. Carscoops added that Chery is all set to reveal its new pickup truck in the coming months, with a possible launch date of early 2025.
Chery’s new pickup truck will reportedly have the possibility of having several powertrain options including an all-electric version. The Chinese automaker could also introduce gasoline and diesel engines as well as a plug-in hybrid option.
The intent of producing a new pickup truck is something that Chery revealed way back in 2022, which increases the likelihood that it could be nearing the completion of the said truck.
Chery International executive vice president Charlie Zhang shared last August 2022 that the car brand was “working on the feasibility study of developing the pickups.” He even added that “in the next years, we will develop the pickup.”
Chery wanted to capitalize on the popularity of midsized pickup trucks, especially in markets such as Australia where the said type of vehicle owns a chunk of the total market share.

Of note, this would not be the first time that Chery will be making a pickup truck. The carmaker previously marketed the Aika and Higgo under its Karry commercial vehicle line, with the models based on reverse-engineered Isuzu pickups.
Chery has also reportedly revealed that it will be launching electric pickup trucks. This report also surfaced back in 2022 with Zhang, the carmaker’s executive vice president, being the news source once again.
“According to our planning we will develop two pickups, one small-medium sized, the other is a large one, with electric or PHEV (plug-in hybrid) [drivetrains],” Zhang said.
