Chery Auto Philippines ended 2023 on a good note as it registered a 64 percent sales growth with 3,600 units sold. The Tiggo 5 led the charge for Chery Auto Philippines with significant support from other Tiggo models such as the 7 and 8.

Chery Auto Philippines (CAP) managing director Froilan Dytianquin attributed the car brand’s success in 2023 to its attractive sales and marketing promotions. Dytianquin added that CAP’s flexible financing deals or offers further pushed the car brand to yield a 64 percent sales growth last year.
The Chinese car brand shared that the Tiggo 5 was its sales driver last year with 1,851 units sold. This translates to an increase of 169 percent year-on-year compared to its sales performance in 2022.
As such, CAP noted that the Tiggo 5’s sales performance in 2023 allowed it to maintain its number four ranking in the subcompact crossover segment in the Philipines with an 11 percent market share.
Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid
Last July 2023, CAP officially introduced another model into its hybrid lineup with the launching of the Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid–joining the Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid and the Tiggo 8 Pro e+ in the local hybrid lineup.
The Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged hybrid engine good for a combined output of 156 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. It sends power exclusively to the front wheels via a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with nine simulated gears.

The hybrid powertrain is completed by a 48-volt BSG (belt-driven starter generator) system. According to CAP, the mild-hybrid setup provides lower carbon emissions by 14 percent and improves fuel efficiency by 13 percent. CAP claims that the Tiggo 5X Pro can deliver a fuel economy of 14.5 km/l.
Another model that pushed CAP’s notable 2023 sales run is the Tiggo 7, which posted a 31 percent sales growth last year, selling a total of 910 units. Based on the data presented by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI), the Tiggo 7 achieved a top four ranking in the compact crossover SUV segment.

The Chery Tiggo 8 midsize crossover SUV also contributed significantly to the car brand’s sales performance in 2023. The Tiggo 8 is said to have registered a six percent sales growth with a total of 473 units sold last year.
“As we welcome the New Year, Chery Auto Philippines remains confident as it aims to double its sales for this year. This will be triggered by the refreshed and new additions to our vehicle model lineup as well as the new Chery dealerships to rise this year,” Dytianquin added.

The Chery Tiggo 5X Pro is a subcompact crossover. It has two variants for the local market: the Comfort and the Hybrid. These are priced at Php 940,000 and Php 1,140,000 respectively.
Size-wise, the Tiggo 5X Pro is 4,358mm long, 1,830mm wide, and 1,670mm in height. It also has a length of 2,630mm and a ground clearance of 196mm.
Under the hood, the Tiggo 5X Pro has two different engine options. The Comfort uses a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated mill making 114 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque. It then uses a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The Hybrid trim meanwhile, gets a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine paired with a best-starter generator (BGS). At maximum, this electrified four-banger can produce 154 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. It also uses a CVT.
Locally, the Tiggo 5X Pro competes against the Toyota Yaris Cross, Toyota Raize, Geely Coolray, Honda HR-V, GAC GS3, MG ZS, etc.

The Chery Tiggo 5X Pro launched for the Philippine market in August 2023. As of its introduction, its two trims, the Comfort and the Hybrid, are priced at Php 940,000 and Php 1,140,000 respectively.
Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Exterior
On the outside, the Tiggo 5X Pro assumes a modern crossover shape. It gets LED headlamps with a follow-me-home function, LED daytime running lamps, LED tail lights, and LED front fog lamps.
It then rides on a set of 18-inch wheels, and it also sports roof rails, a high-mounted brake light, power-folding side mirrors, and plenty of chrome and silver trim pieces.

Inside, this Chery crossover can seat up to five. Its seats are wrapped in PVC leather, and it gets ambient lighting, a six-way power adjustable driver’s seat, an auto start/stop function, a push-to-start button, and a remote tailgate unlocker.

Handling safety for this subcompact is a slew of features that one would find on modern crossovers. This includes anti-lock braking, stability control, traction control, ISOFIX child seat anchors, uphill assist, tire pressure monitoring, cruise control, hill-descent control, and a 360-degree view monitor, among others.
Handling onboard entertainment for this model is a 10.25-inch touchscreen that’s linked to a total of six speakers. It likewise gets Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a wireless smartphone charger.

The top-spec Hybrid uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine paired with a BSG. At maximum, it can produce up to 156 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. The entry-level 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine, in turn, can churn out 114 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque. Both trims use a CVT which sends power to its front wheels.
Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Chassis
The Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid uses a MacPherson strut for the front and a multi-link suspension for its rear. The Comfort gets the same front suspension, but it uses a torsion beam for its rear instead.
Braking for the model is provided by four discs for all wheels. The top-spec variant then gets an electronic parking brake.
There are six available color options for the 2024 Chery Tiggo 5X Pro. There's Black, Blue, Grey, Red, Silver, and White.
The Chery Tiggo 5X Pro is one of the most affordable hybrids in the market right now. That said, it is in a good position for those with a stiffer budget to enter the world of electrified cars. Despite that, it also gets a peppy engine combined with a well-equipped interior as well.
