MPTC expects up to 15 percent surge in traffic volume this Holy Week

More than 1,500 personnel have been deployed to manage traffic.

The Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) is ramping up its effort to manage traffic this Holy Week rush.

MPTC is monitoring traffic for safer and more convenient travel for motorists

According to the toll road company, a 10 to 15 percent increase is expected along its expressways. The average daily travelers are 350,000 in NLEX-SCTEX (North Luzon Expressway-Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway), 160,000 in CAVITEX (Manila-Cavite Expressway), 16,000 in CAVITEX C5 Link, and 34,000 in CALAX (Cavite-Laguna Expressway).

In response to the expected traffic surge, MPTC has deployed more traffic and toll operations personnel: 1,000 in NLEX-SCTEX; 500 in CAVITEX, CAVITEX C5 Link, and CALAX; and 68 in the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX). High volumes plazas such as Balintawak and Mindanao will be monitored closely by traffic management teams.

Speaking of CCLEX, the Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corporation (CCLEC) has activated its first motorist assistance program, providing necessary services to ensure safety for traversing motorists.

These initiatives are part of the company’s “Safe Trip Mo, Sagot Ko (SMSK)” motorist assistance program, which is now in its 14^th year. Another effort under this program includes the deployment of emergency medical services, ensuring the safety of motorists this Lenten season.

Free towing services are available for Class 1 vehicles traversing MPTC expressways until April 11, 2023.

“We are reminding our motorists to plan their trips and avoid the rush hours. The influx of travelers is anticipated starting in the afternoon of Holy Wednesday until the afternoon of Maundy Thursday, as well as in the afternoon to [the] evening of Black Saturday, Easter Sunday, and the Monday after Easter,” said MPTC President Rodrigo E. Franco.

In case you missed it, the NLEX Corporation, a subsidiary of MTPC, opened the NLEX Connector Caloocan-España section about a week ago. Spanning 5.15 km, this section offers a short 5-minute travel time between Caloocan and España Boulevard, Manila. You can use the expressway to get to your destination this Holy Week for free.
