EDSA Ortigas flyover southbound closed from April 6 to 10

It will be closed to motorists starting at 8 a.m., Thursday. 

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is looking to take advantage of the expected lesser vehicle volume in Metro Manila this Holy Week. The agency announced that the EDSA Ortigas flyover southbound will be closed for repair works.

The DPWH – Metro Manila 1st District Engineering Office will close the EDSA Ortigas flyover southbound starting April 6, 2023 (8 a.m.) until April 10, 2023 (11:59 p.m.). This means that three lanes of the said flyover will be closed to motorists.

The agency shared that the EDSA Ortigas flyover southbound will be closed to traffic as it will be conducting rehabilitation works. This involves major repairs on the said portion of the flyover to fix the damages seen in the structure’s expansion joints. 

The DPWH clarified that the northbound section of the EDSA Ortigas flyover will remain passable or open to motorists from April 6 to 10.

The DPWH will also work on improving the flyover’s riding surface as well as strengthening the overall structural integrity of the bridge for motorists coming from Pasig City, Quezon City, and other nearby areas. The agency added that the repair or rehabilitation work is part of its yearly preventive maintenance of national bridges and roads around Metro Manila.

Affected motorists traversing EDSA southbound are advised to access the alternate route through the service road to avoid traffic congestion.

The DPWH – Metro Manila 1st District Engineering Office said that is committed to opening the EDAS Ortigas flyover southbound to traffic on April 10, 2023.  

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has suspended the number coding scheme for the 2023 Holy Week. The MMDA will start to suspend the number coding on April 5, specifically the 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. coding hours. The agency has decided to suspend the afternoon/evening number coding on April 5 to give more flexibility for motorists or individuals who will go home to their respective provinces this Holy Week.

The number coding scheme will be suspended for the duration of the 2023 Holy Week until April 10, which is a regular holiday in observance of Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor). The said holiday is traditionally observed on April 9, which falls on a Sunday. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared it to be moved on Monday, April 10.
