The Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced its heightened alert campaign in response to the Holy Week and summer vacation.

LTO wants to ensure the safety of motorists this Holy Week

Dubbed “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Semana Santa and Summer Vacation 2023,” the government agency is bolstering its efforts in keeping roads safe from March 31 to April 10. During these times, many motorists are going home to provinces or on an out-of-town trip, increasing the volume of cars on the road.

To ensure the safety of motorists, the LTO will conduct roadworthiness inspections of public utility vehicles (PUVs). This can help minimize road incidents due to faulty components. The agency will also carry out random drug testing for PUV drivers and conductors.

The LTO also reminded motorists that the Republic Act 4136, also known as the Land Transpiration and Traffic Code, is strictly enforced, which will apprehend motorists who will commit traffic violations. Automated handheld devices are on the agency’s agenda for handing out violation tickets.

Furthermore, areas and terminals outside the National Capital Region (NCR) will also be manned by LTO personnel. With it, motorists from different regions of the country can have safer Holy Week and summer vacations.

“Wala kaming hangad sa LTO kundi ang masigurong mairaraos nang maayos at ligtas ang Holy Week at bakasyon ng ating mga kababayan. Hinihingi rin naming ang pakikiisa ng publiko sa pag-iingat at pagsunod sa mga batas-trapiko para sa biyaheng ayos ngayong taon,” said Tugade.

(We at LTO want nothing but to ensure a good and safe Holy Week and vacation for our fellow countrymen. We also encourage the public to follow the traffic and road safety regulations for safe drives this year.)

If you find unruly drivers, you can send a complaint to the LTO via the ‘Isumbong Mo Kay Chief.’ It is an online complaint platform that allows the public to send their concerns to the agency, which will be directed to the LTO chief himself.
