This car brand dethroned Honda from the top spot.

Google search volume is one of the ways to see which product interests the majority of consumers. Here in the Philippines, Toyota is crowned as the most Googled car brand in 2022.

In Google Trends data shared by Australian website Compare The Market, Toyota tops the searches on our shores, followed by Honda and Suzuki, respectively. One can say that the result of the data isn’t a surprise considering that Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is the leading car company locally.

Last 2022, TMP rolled out various efforts and programs that increased the brand’s Google searches. The Toyota Raize made its Philippine debut in March 2022, which is the company’s entry into the growing subcompact crossover market.

Considering the price point, the Toyota Raize has been positioned as a volume seller. In turn, more prospective car buyers will look up information about the Raize online. TMP even announced that it aims to sell 1,000 units of the crossover every month.

The next-gen Toyota Avanza and Lite Ace also made a splash last year, with the latter growing interest in the brand among Filipino entrepreneurs. Of course, the Toyota Vios also helped garner more searches considering that the subcompact sedan is TMP’s best-selling model.

In second place is fellow Japanese automaker Honda. The arrival of the next-gen models of the HR-V and BR-V most likely generated searches for the brand. To note, Honda has been the most Googled brand since 2020.

And in third is another car brand from Japan, Suzuki. Perhaps the biggest news to come out of Suzuki Philippines, Inc. (SPH) last year is the launching of the next-gen Celerio. The small hatchback now has increased dimensions and improved tech, accompanied by the new and more fuel-efficient 1.0-liter K10C engine.

But Google Trends data don’t translate to sales as Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) will still likely be the second best-selling car brand in the country. According to the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines’ November 2022 sales report, Mitsubishi sits comfortably in second place.

With the next-gen version of the Vios and Innova now out in overseas markets, TMP is expected to enjoy another round of high Google search volume this year if the two were to be launched locally. The company also announced its interest in bringing in the bZ4X, an all-electric crossover that should spark curiosity among Filipinos.
