MG Philippines is a car brand best known for its models with rich British heritage such as the ZS subcompact crossover. But there is one thing that the brand has always been passionate about, and that is Original Pilipino Music (OPM).
MG Philippines x Philippine Educational Theater Association
To show its support to OPM, the automaker has partnered with the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) to promote its hit original Pinoy musical “Rak of Aegis” online. Under the partnership, MG Philippines will be handing out free e-tickets to the OPM musical through a raffle.
The Rak of Aegis features classic songs of the iconic rock band, Aegis. It tells the story of a young girl named Aileen living in Barangay Venezia who dreams of becoming a YouTube sensation.
British-bred MG RX5
Due to the quarantine restrictions, the Pinoy musical will be held virtually only on August 8, 2021. That said, a total of 12 winners will be drawn from the raffle which will be announced on August 6. From August 1 to August 5, users can qualify for the raffle by doing the following, as per MG Philippines:
- Like and follow MG Philippines’ official social media pages.
- Tag two friends in the comments section of the official #RakwithMG Facebook post with the hashtag #RAKWITHMG, and
- Upload a screenshot of their comment along with their contact details to this Google Form: bit.ly/RakWithMGRaffle. A total of 12 winners will be randomly drawn and announced on August 6, and e-tickets will be given on August 7.
One of the recent efforts MG Philippines rolled out to support OPM is its collaboration with contemporary folk-pop OPM group Ben&Ben. The band drove two of its brand’s crossovers, the ZS and RX5, to go on a road trip while talking about the challenges of life, growing up in the real world, and choosing to follow dreams.

The MG RX5 is a compact, 5-door, 5-seater model. In the Philippine market, it has three different variants. These are the RX5 Core 1.5 MT, the RX5 Style 1.5 AT, and the RX5 Alpha 1.5 AT. The MG RX5 price ranges from Php 1,058,888 to Php 1,298,888.
Under the hood, the Philippine-spec MG RX5 uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine capable of producing up to 167 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. It then uses a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox sending power to its front wheels.
Size-wise, the RX5 comes with a length of 4,545mm, a width of 1,855mm, and a height of 1,719mm. It then has a wheelbase of 2,700mm.
Locally, the MG RX5 competes against the likes of the Mazda CX5, Hyundai Tucson, Subaru Forester, Ford Territory, among others.
