Matchbox has been around long enough that we often hear it since we were young. This year, the toy brand is celebrating its 70th Anniversary of die-cast adventures since it was conceived by English engineer Jack Odell in 1953.

To celebrate, Mattel, Matchbox’s parent company, is introducing a line of special limited-edition vehicles. The new die-cast models come with platinum and orange color motif, along with a “70” decal as a nod to the milestone.

From classics to next-generation cars, the special limited-edition line has something for everyone. Some of these include the Ford Mustang, Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6, Volkswagen Beetle, Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevrolet Corvette, and GMC Hummer EV.

Matchbox is moving forward with sustainability in mind

The inclusion of electric vehicles (EVs) in the roster is intentional as Matchbox is committed to integrating more all-electric die-cast models and eco-friendly themes into its product portfolio. It is part of the company’s vision to make all toys and packaging from 100 percent recycled, recyclable, or bio-based plastic materials by 2030.

In addition to Matchbox’s commitment to strengthening its recycling efforts, a portion of the new 70th anniversary die-cast collection will be made from recycled zinc. With it, the brand hopes to inspire the next-gen of kids and collectors to do their part in making the world more sustainable.

The line is also joined by iconic race cars such as the Porsche 917 and Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 4x4 (953) that won the Paris-Dakar Rally in 1984. Other die-cast models include a police car, an ambulance, a double-decker bus, a firetruck, a helicopter, and a plane.

“We are excited to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Matchbox and the trusted legacy this brand has imprinted on kids and collectors all over the world,” said Senior Vice President and Global Head of Mattel Vehicles at Mattel, Roberto Stanichi.

“We look forward to continuing to redefine the die-cast category as we move toward a more sustainable future,” added Stanichi.
